Bigelow B3 October 31st, 2012 House on Mango Street Essay Critical thinking is the ability to evaluate and analyze information and opinions in a systematic, purposeful, and efficient manner. Critical thinking is an important skill that will help you throughout life. The House on Mango Street was a book about a young Hispanic girl, Esperanza, who grows up in poverty with her family and she hopes to live elsewhere that she can one day call home. After reading the book I was given the task of writing a four paragraph essay about how a persons society can be a barrier for accomplishing their dream, using evidence to support my answer. I was given an hour and 30 minutes to accomplish this task. During the essay I used evidentiary support, critical thinking, and the book itself to complete this assignment. I organized and plotted my essay, deciding what evidence would best support my claim. I also organized my time, giving me enough time to complete each paragraph and add in details. I had to critically think about how a persons society can become a barrier to achieve their dreams
