Carpenter, II WRT 1010 Section #8 October 15, 2013 Reflection 1 Even though my major is Sign Language Studies (SLS), I feel that my abilities as a writer has improved greatly. My strengths of writing comes from my personal experiences, and if possible, my own feelings. However, my weakness is getting through a thorough research for any type of paper going (that is because of being a heavy procrastinator). Throughout all of my assignments in WRT 1010, my favorite assignment was the narrative essay. I really didnt have a problem with any of my assignments; the only one was that I accidentally wrote a descriptive essay instead of the narrative. The goals that I really want to improve on is how to develop an appropriate, yet complex thesis statement and be able to corroborate it with a sound paper, especially during the second semester. One assignment that I worked on in class was the narrative assignment. For my essay, I chose to tell the story of how I overcame my fear of the dark as a pre-teen. After mapping out my ideas, I found it very easy to pick out the main topic for each paragraph and be able to describe in detail the scenario. I liked the assignment because it brought back the nostalgia of my childhood memories. It also made me reflect on how strong I became emotionally in regards to how I view everyday life. I think I did pretty well, with the exception of a few added on words in most sentences. Another assignment I worked on in class was a reader response towards The People Next Door by Jonathan R. Gould, Jr. I really liked how he was not only able to help the reader identify the different types of neighbors, but he also incorporated in his tales neighbors he has come across himself in his past experiences.
