An Introduction

Written by an English playwright, J. B Priestly. First performed in 1945. Set in 1912. A three act drama which takes place in one place on one night.

One evening, in the spring of 1912 in England, The Birling family are celebrating their daughter Sheilas engagement to Gerald Croft.

An Inspector disrupts this happy family affair by arriving to question members of the family following the death of a young woman, Eva Smith. Throughout the play every family member is made to feel responsible for Eva Smiths death.

In small groups you will perform extracts from An Inspector Calls, which explore who is responsible for Eva Smiths death. You will research the play and its historical and social context to help you create a realistic scene with 3D characters. You must effectively use the physical and vocal skills that we have focused on throughout this unit so far to communicate the status of each character and their relationships with each other.
