Universality of velocity and scalars in turbulence:

Experimental tests and implications for subfilter-scale models

CTS-0120317 PI: Charles Meneveau Johns Hopkins University

Contrary to common wisdom, the large coherent structures in turbulent flows, have a direct impact upon energy transfer occurring at much smaller scales. This casts doubts upon the universality of fine-scale structure in turbulence and general applicability of standard eddy-viscosity model

Adding nanoparticles to polymers (plastics) produces a viscosity decrease, a result at odds with the classical Einstein prediction.
