They use the baby and its safe keeping appealing to the emotion of keeping a child safe. E. Other appeals that could be used could be ethos. Its an ethical decision to buy safe tires not only to keep your family safe but the other vehicles and environment around you safe as well. Political ad about Allen A. The intended audience is voters. B. The person speaking is someone against the election of Allen. C. The purpose of the advertisement is convince you to see Allen as not trustworthy. D. The appeal being used is Ethos. They make Allen as a racist and not capable of being a positive leader. E. Other appeals that could be used as well are Pathos and Logos. The way they represent Allen as possibly racist can easily appeal to the feelings of those ethnicities. Logos is also used by depicting Allen as the wrong choice when making a political decision. The person speaking is an Indonesian shoe assembly worker. C. The purpose of the advertisement is to create awareness of the working conditions of the people making the products that we wear. D. The appeal being used is ethos. It makes you think about the things you work to get in comparison to the treatment of those people making those products in far worse conditions. It appeals to making an ethical decision each time that you purchase products from Nike who uses this type of cruel labor. E. D. The appeal being used is Pathos. Not much is said in this ad other than the words know why. The soldiers face cannot be seen but he appears to be praying. Overall I think its causing for the viewer of this image to learn the emotions and burdens that soldiers carry putting their lives on the line for our freedom. E. This particular ad could appeal to all three. It could create Ethos by the simple fact that war involves murder and many people are in agreement that the death of innocents is ethically wrong. As with any war there are always opponents of it and this can create an appeal to be for or against it. #6 Lean Beef A. The intended audience is people who watch what they eat. B. The person speaking is a beef company C. The purpose of the advertisement is to convince you that lean beef is just as healthy or more than chicken. D. The appeal being used is Logos. They use statistics to convince you that it is just as good or better to eat lean beef in comparison to skinless chicken. Israeli Peace A. The intended audience is Hamas, Hezbollah and the Islamic Jihad members. B. The person speaking is Israel. C. The purpose of the advertisement is to create awareness and point the finger at groups of people teaching hate to children. D. The appeal being used is Ethos. They use of the picture of children with guns causes one to immediately see that is it ethically wrong to teach this kind of mentality to children. E. By depicting the children with the guns it appeals to people with young family members knowing that they wouldnt want to see their children like this. Logos is also used by urging you to join Israel in Peace which goes against the groups mentioned in the ad. Mac vs. PC A. The intended audience is pc computer owners looking to upgrade to Vista. B. The person speaking is a young man representing Mac. C. The purpose of the advertisement is to represent Mac as a better product that pc. D. The appeal being used is Logos. The ad is encouraging you to purchase a Mac product by representing pc products as inferior and of lesser quality. E. It could also use pathos by relating to the emotions of frustration when having to jump through several hoops to upgrade to vista software on pc in comparison to the advertised ease of use for the Mac. The Twin Towers A. The intended audience is the people of America. B. The person speaking is an Arab-American C. The purpose of the advertisement is to create a sense of unity against hate. D. The appeal being used is a strong sense of Pathos created by the events of September 11. It hits emotions by creating imagery of hatred towards fellow Americans by fellow Americans. E. Ethos could also be used in this ad by appealing to the unethical hatred towards to members of your nations who had nothing to do with the events of that day. The demonstration of how hatred can create more damage also creates Ethos and Pathos. #10 Dodge A. The intended audience is people looking to buy a car B. The person speaking is a car manufacturer C. The purpose of the advertisement is to make the advertised vehicle look edgy and fun to own. D. The appeal being used is definitely pathos. By representing a car putting its rear end on a copy machine it portrays a feeling of the rebel, fun, and exciting car to own. E. Logos could also be used in order to cause you to choose their more exciting product over boring vehicle from another manufacturer. Anti-smoking A. The intended audience is cigarette smokers. B. The person speaking is a camel. C. The purpose of the advertisement is to promote the cause of anti-smoking. D. The appeal being used is Pathos by using the known mascot of a cigarette brand to portray the image of a worn down and possibly depressed person. This creates a feeling of sadness for smokers and even people with loved ones who smoke. E. In this ad logos could be used to create support for the anti-smoking campaign and cause people to be against smoking. Crest A. The intended audience is people that brush their teeth. B. The person speaking is a dentist. C. The purpose of the advertisement is to promote of using the proper toothpaste for brushing your teeth. D. The appeal being used is Logos by using factual data from dentists to portray a superiority of the Crest product over its competitors. Starbucks A. The intended audience is starbucks customers. B. The person speaking is starbucks. C. The purpose of the advertisement is to create holiday cheer and care for others. D. The appeal being used is pathos. It seems like the starbucks company gave some sort of gift to its customers to encourage them to share that feeling of appreciation and joy with others.
