FINAL PROJECT

FASHION HISTORY NOTEBOOK

Compile a notebook of 10 contemporary clothing styles which have been influenced by or feature elements, silhouettes, or design details from prior historical periods. The styles should be from a variety of eras with no duplicated eras. Do not rely on fashion magazines to spell this out for you. We want to hear your own thoughts and observations. Note where you found the photo (Ex: Vogue September). If you are interested in accessories you are allowed 1 accessory style only and need to include what it would be worn with in both instances. Select 10 current fashion styles 2013 and provide a clear color photograph of them. This can be a tear sheet from a magazine, catalogue, newspaper or something which you have downloaded. They need to be big and clear enough to see them. Do not use compressed or unclear pictures. Present the pictures side by side and if size allows the writing should appear on the facing page. If I cannot see them you will not receive a grade for that page. Choose fashion items rather than something basic like a classic white shirt or a striped tie. When in doubt please show me the pictures. This project must be typed. Find 10 clear pictures from the historical era of influence which show where the influence/inspiration for the above may have come from. This visual may be a photo, painting, artwork, line drawing or other CLEAR visual representation. Color is helpful if it is available. These do not need to be photographs but they may be. Compare and contrast the 2 styles. Show the two pictures side by side and have the text visible with the pictures. It is required that you use the headings below and present them in this order. *Description: Describe both styles in detail. Someone should be able to visualize the garment from your written description. Write about all of these: neckline, sleeves, collar, waistline, silhouette, fabric, color, length and details. Styles are rarely re-introduced without some changes. Include any descriptive terminology used in both/either of the eras. Different eras may call the same item by different names . __________6pts *Similarities list as many as you observe ~3 minimum *Differences list as many as you observe ~ 3 minimum (When in doubt give a 4th to be sure that you earn full credit.) ___________3pts ___________3pts
