History of Independence
The Republic Government of Ecuador is broken in 24 different provinces. Ecuadors capital, Quito, gained Independence from Spain in August 10, 1809; the remaining parts of Ecuador gained their Independence from Spain on May 24, 1822.

Chief of Stateand Responsibilities


President Rafael Correa Delgado holds many responsibilities and powers within Ecuador. President Delgado is to comply and enforce Ecuadors constitution and decrees. He is to maintain domestic order and national security for all citizens, the constitution allows him to either appoint or remove governors, diplomats, governing minister and any other individual serving in a public office setting.

Legislative and Judicial Branch


The Legislative in Ecuador is known as the Unicameral National Assembly. The branch currently contains 137 seats and its members are elected through a party-list designed by the President. Each member is allowed to serve a four-year term. The Judicial Branch is made of 21 judges, which includes the Chief Justice. The branch is organized into 5 specialized chambers; the constitutional court and the National Court of Justice. The constitutional Court only consists of 11 judges, while the National Court contains 9 members.

It is the Chief of States responsibility to declare a state of emergency in situations in where the country of Ecuador and its citizens are victims of foreign aggression, war and/or any type of catastrophe. The Cabinet members are appointed by the President; the Constitutional Court judges are appointed by the President and the Supreme Court.
