5th Blog Pope Benedict IX

He was only eighteen years old when elevated to the Papal office; Benedict IX (1032-44) was considered one of the worst popes and end up being driven from Rome. Under his leadership the papacy sank to a new moral low, which when considering those who went before him, was quite a concern for some leaders that wanted much needed reform. At this time the reformed empire came to rescue the papacy. The abuses by the papal office did not ruin the church because the work Augustine did with the Donatists; and so they were able to make distinction between the institution and its pope. If we were living in such times I wonder if we would see things as we do now looking back. Its easy to study history and see the mistakes that led to such wide spread problems and consequences, but would we see as clearly as we do from afar? Which begs the question; what is it that is happening right in front of our eyes that we dont see? There is always those who are truth seekers that want to do what is good and right in every age. If we dont see it now, I doubt we wouldve seen it then. When men/women seek their own and positions of power there will always be those that are corrupt; because they are there for self and the promotion off. Prevention is always better than the cure. Once a corrupt person gets in power they often attract like mined people and then before you know it all are after the same thing, their own personal gain. There is only one cure for such a disease and that is a leadership that is for Christ and not themselves. Unfortunately there are other powers at play that would disrupt all that is good and righteous.
