ENM200 Subsurface Coursework Part B Reservoir Engineering Coursework Issuer: Dr W E Mason Q1 Part (a) A sample of gas recovered during

exploratory drilling operations in a new shale gas development gave the following composition data on analysis:Component methane ethane propane isobutane n-butane carbon dioxide nitrogen mol% 71.1 9.3 4.6 1.2 0.8 10.4 2.6

It is proposed to export the gas from the field by pipeline. Determine:a) b) c) the value of the expansion factor E for the gas if the reservoir conditions are 3400 psia and 243F; the density of the gas (lb/ft3) at entry to the export pipeline if the conditions there are 1200 psia and 70F; the specific gravity of the gas.

Part (b) Explain the differences in composition and properties between a dry gas, a wet gas and a gas condensate, and discuss briefly how these affect the transport and the marketing of the gas and any condensate produced from it. (An answer of not more than 3-4 pages is appropriate. Useful up-to-date information on these topics can be obtained from periodicals such as Oil and Gas Journal, JPT and Petroleum Review.) The allocation of marks for this assignment is:- Part (a) 60%, Part (b) 40%.
