LESSON PLAN AGE GROUP: 3-5 Age group CONSIDERATIONS: We must consider that children need to explore through

visual arts in order to develop a sense of belonging to groups and themselves. INSPIRATION: For this activity we use the medium of collage as an inspiration as well as focus artist Eric Carle. Children will take inspiration from Carles method of collage to create their Flags. DISCUSSION: Discuss with children about different countries, languages and cultures of the world. LINKS TO EYLF: 1. Children have a strong sense of identity This experiences aim to offer children opportunities to create a sense of agency, where they get to make decisions about what they create. It can build their identities by allowing children to connect to the world around them and other cultures. 4. Children are confident and involved learners This experience aims to allow children to create dispositions for learning through creativity, persistence and imagination. It also aims to give children the opportunity to use methods of experimentation, researching and investigation to work out the best possible ways to use the art materials. OBJECTIVES:

To allow children to express themselves through making a collage with the inspiration of Eric Carle whilst promoting learning of new countries and cultures from around the world. TUNING IN ACTIVITY: Before the activity commences, children can discuss where they are from and where their families are from. ACTIVITY: Using a print out of different country flags, children will use ripped paper to fill in the spaces traced out for them. They will be using Eric Carles method of collage by doing so. Provide various sorts of resources such as crepe paper, standard paper, colour paper, cellophane, tissue paper or anything that you are able to provide. RESOURCES AND MATERIALS: Paper Glue Scissors Flag Template Large work space A visual representation of the flag MODIFICATIONS: You can modify this activity by changing the temple to anything you are currently studying with the children. ASSESSMENT: The aim for this activity is about he process of discovery and exploration. We do need to assess children at this age, as visual arts is about the process and not the final product.
