LESSON PLAN AGE GROUP: 6-8 Age group CONSIDERATIONS: We must consider that children need to explore through

visual arts in order to develop a sense of belonging to groups and themselves. INSPIRATION: For this activity we use collage as in inspiration for the mosaic at work. DISCUSSION: Discuss with children about different forms of collage and how mosaic comes under the collage umbrella. LINKS TO EYLF: 1. Children have a strong sense of identity This experiences aim to offer children opportunities to create a sense of agency, where they get to make decisions about what they create. It can build their identities by allowing children to connect to the world around them and other cultures. 5. Children are effective communicators Open-ended visual arts experiences allow children to express themselves and communicate through their artwork using non-verbal means. Children have the opportunity to create an individual mosaic piece where they can communicate and express themselves. OBJECTIVES To allow children to express themselves through making mosaic and giving the children the

opportunity to create what ever they like in the size provided. TUNING IN ACTIVITY: Before the activity commences, children can think about the sort of work they want to create. Children can discuss with other to brain storm. ACTIVITY: Using a 8 X 8 wooden block children are able to create a collage made from mosaic. children have the opportunity to create what they wish given the colour tiles and resources provided to them. You can give hints such as a flower, themselves, their families, a favourite food or pet to spark their imagination. Please help children when cutting the tiles, alternatively, provide a basket with the tiles pre cut they can choose from. RESOURCES AND MATERIALS: 8 X 8 wooden block Mosaic pieces Tile cutters Baskets Art smocks MODIFICATIONS: You can modify this activity by changing the amount of assistant provided. ASSESSMENT: The aim for this activity is about he process of discovery and exploration. Photography of the childs process and final artwork, as well as reflections from both the children and the educator would be an engaging form of documentation.
