Dear Parents,

4th Grade News

Important Dates October 25 No School November 11 Veterans Day Assembly November 15 Mid-Quarter Checks November 27-29 Thanksgiving Break

Thank you for attending your childs parent -teacher conference and for your dollar donation for our pizza party. :) We have been learning that the Woodland Indians were the first documented gardeners. In celebration of completing this unit, we will be making vegetable soup next Wednesday, October 30th. Please have your child bring in a raw vegetable we can add to the soup. If you are sending something like a carrot, it would make my life so much easier if it is already peeled and cut. I will have a peeler with me at school just in case. We will dump all our vegetables into a crock pot and let them cook all day. During social studies we will watch our class presentations and celebrate the end of this unit by eating a healthy bowl of soup. Your child took the Scholastic Reading Inventory again this week which is a reading comprehension test. The expected growth over one year is 100 points. Its important to keep your child reading ALOUD at home until his/her score is over 900. He/She doesnt have to read to you just aloud. We use whisper phones quite a bit at school for this. Our student teacher, Miss Schildknecht, will be gone from our classroom the next four weeks. Shell be rotating to other buildings/classrooms to observe/teach. I know well miss her greatly! Shell be back a couple of weeks before she graduates. Her going away/graduation present will be a basket of desk/classroom supplies. If you would like to donate an item for the basket, it would be appreciated. Suggested items : staples, paperclips, scissors, markers, grading pens, sticky notes, anything teacher-related.
