Surround a rivoli
with bicone crystal
fringe and attach
herringbone straps
for a glamorous
bracelet.
EDITORS NOTES:
Check the fit of the
bracelet before joining
the ends of the herring-
bone straps so you can
increase or decrease
the length as necessary.
Be careful to use an
even, but not tight,
tension when stitching
the herringbone straps
so they are flexible
enough to bend in half.

Bezel
[1] On 2 yd. (2.3 m) of nylon beading
thread, center 46 110 cylinder beads.
Sew through all the beads and the
first bead again to form a ring. Work
a round of tubular peyote stitch (Basics,
p. 86) using cylinders. Step up through
the first cylinder added.
[2] Continue working in peyote stitch
using 150 seed beads for three rounds,
keeping a firm tension. Tie a couple of
half-hitch knots (Basics), but do not
trim the working thread.
[3] With the tail, stitch a round of
peyote using 150s, and insert the rivoli
face down in the bezel. Snug up the
beadwork to secure the rivoli. Stitch
two more rounds of peyote using 150s.
Tie a couple of half-hitch knots, but
do not trim the tail.
Side bails
[1] With the tail, sew through the
beadwork to exit the round of cylinders
closest to the back of the rivoli. Pick up
a cylinder, and sew through the next
cylinder in the round. Repeat twice to
add a total of three cylinders (figure 1).
[2] Work three peyote stitches off of the
cylinders added in step 1 (figure 2, ab).
With your thread exiting the first cylin-
der added in step 1, pick up a cylinder,
and sew under the thread between the
nearest bezel cylinder and the adjacent
150 (bc), then sew back through the
cylinder just added (cd).
[3] Work a total of 24 rows of odd-
count peyote stitch (Basics), and zip up
(Basics) the last row and the first row to
complete the bail. End the tail (Basics).
[4] With the working thread, sew
through the beadwork to exit the
opposite side of the bezel, and make
another bail.
Embellishment
[1] Using the working thread, sew
through the beadwork to exit the
middle round of cylinders. Pick up
a 150, a 4 mm bicone crystal, and three
150s. Skip the three 150s and sew back
through the 4 mm, the 150, and the next
cylinder in the same round. Repeat to
complete the round.
[2] Sew through the beadwork to exit
the round of cylinders closest to the front
of the rivoli, and repeat the embellish-
ment in step 1. End the working thread.
Herringbone straps
[1] On 2 yd. (1.8 m) of nylon beading
thread, pick up two 150s, leaving a 6-in.
(15 cm) tail. Sew through both beads
again, and position them side by side.
Working in ladder stitch (Basics), add
two more stitches using 150s. Form the
ladder into a ring (Basics).
[2] Using 150s, work in tubular herring-
bone stitch (Basics) to the desired length,
ending and adding thread (Basics) as
needed. Keep in mind that the strap will
be folded over. In my bracelet, each her-
ringbone strap is 6 in. (16.5 cm) long.
[3] Slide the herringbone strap through
a side bail on the bezel, and check the fit
of the strap. Making sure the strap is
not twisted, join the ends by working
a herringbone stitch thread path through
the first and last rounds. End the work-
ing thread and tail.
[4] Make another strap on the other
side of the bracelet.
Peyote bands
[1] On 1 yd. (.9 m) of nylon beading
thread, attach a stop bead (Basics),
leaving a 6-in. (15 cm) tail. Pick up
seven cylinder beads, and work in odd-
count peyote stitch for 26 rows. Wrap
the peyote strip around the herringbone
strap on one side of the bracelet, and
zip up the ends (photo). End the work-
ing thread and tail.
[2] Make another peyote band, and
attach it to the other herringbone strap.
Clasp
[1] On 1 yd. (1.4 m) of Fireline, attach
a stop bead, leaving a 12-in. (30 cm)
tail. Pick up five cylinders, and work
a strip of square stitch (Basics) that is
four cylinders wide and 10 rows long.
[2] Remove the stop bead, wrap the
strip around one end loop of a herring-
bone strap, and work a square stitch
thread path through the first and last
rows to join the strip into a ring.
[3] Continue working in square stitch
off of the ring using cylinders:

FIGURE 4
Rows 1122: Work 11 rows with four
cylinders per row.
Rows 2329: To create an opening for
the clasp bead, stitch seven rows with
two stitches per row (figure 3, ab).
Increase the last two rows to four cyl-
inders per row: Pick up two cylinders,
and sew through the first one again
(bc). Repeat (cd), then sew through
all four beads in row 28 (de).
[4] Sew through row 29 to exit the
other edge, and sew back through
the last two beads added in row 28
(figure 4, ab). Stitch five rows with
two stitches per row to make a sec-
ond column. Join the last two stitches
to the remaining beads in row 22
(bc). End the working Fireline.
[5] Determine where you want
to attach the clasp bead, and with the
tail, sew through the beadwork to
exit at that point. Be sure you are
working on the top of the bracelet
(the rivoli is facing up). Pick up a 150,
a 6 mm margarita, and a 150. Skip
the 150, and sew back through the
margarita, the 150, and the next cyl-
inder in the strip. Retrace the thread
path a few times to reinforce the join,
and end the Fireline. w
