Pattern
Color Guide
C1: beige
C2: brown

HEAD
Notes: [1] The head is worked from front to back.

Use of C1 yarn (beige) is marked with underline.

Start with C1 yarn.

R1: In C1: ch 2 and insert 8 sc in the 2nd ch from hook. (8)

R2: In C1: sc 5. In C2: sc 3. (8)

R3: In C1: inc 5. In C2: inc 3. (16)

R4: In C1: sc 9. In C2: inc 7. (23)

In C2: inc in the next st. This will be the new start of the round.

R5-R6: In C1: sc 8. In C2: sc 16. (24)

Use only C2 from here on out.

R7-R8: Sc around. (24)

Insert 10mm eyes between R3-R4, in the middle of the C1 and C2 color changes of R3.
(See photo references)

Use black thread to sew a nose to the snout, or attach a 8mmx6.5mm plastic safety
nose.

R9: Sc 8, dec 8. (16)

R10: Dec around. (8)

Before you stuff the head, crochet the ears using the ‘Ears’ instructions below. This will
allow you to tie the yarn tails securely inside of the head. Once you finish the ears, stuff
the head and FO with a long tail for sewing the opening shut.

EARS (x2)
Note: Ears will be crocheted directly onto the head between the Head’s R6-R7.

Use C2 yarn.
1. With the head facing you, count up 5 sts from the C2 color change in R6. Insert hook
between R6-R7, under that 5th st. (See photo references)
2. Ch, hdc in same st, ch.
3. FO with a tail and pull both the starting and ending yarn tails into the head. Tie
them securely inside.
4. Count 6 sts to the left. Attach yarn to the 6th st.
5. Repeat steps #2-3 for the second ear.

BODY
Note: Use of C1 yarn (beige) is marked with underline from R2-R8.

Start with C2 yarn and use it as the main color yarn.

R1: Ch 2 and insert 8 sc in the 2nd ch from hook. (8)

R2: Inc 4. In C1: inc 4. (16)

R3: (Sc 3, inc) x 2. In C1: (sc 3, inc) x 2. (20)

R4-R7: Sc 10. In C1: sc 10. (20)

R8: Dec 5. In C1: dec 5. (10)

FO with a long tail for sewing to the head later. Stuff the body with fiberfill.

TAIL
Use C2 yarn.

R1: Ch 2 and insert 4 sc in the 2nd ch from hook. (4)

R2: Sc around. (4)

R3: (Sc, inc) x 2. (6)

R4: Sc around. (6)

R5: (Sc 2, inc) x 2. (8)

R6: Sc around. (8)

LEGS
Use C2 yarn.

R1: Ch 2 and insert 6 sc in the 2nd ch from hook. (6)

R2: (Sc 2, inc) x 2. (8)

R3: Sc around. (8)

FO with a long tail for sewing to the body later. Lightly stuff with fiberfill.

ARMS (x2)
Use C2 yarn.

R1: Ch 2 and insert 6 sc in the 2nd ch from hook. (6)

R2-R6: Sc around. (6)

FO with a long tail for sewing to the body later.

Finishing
1. Sew the arms to the sides of the Body’s R7-R8. If desired, sew the front of the paws

down to the body so that it looks like your otter can be holding an object on its belly.

2. Position the legs to the front of the body (over R3-R4) and sew them down.

3. Sew the tail to the bottom of the body.

4. Sew the C1 color portion (front side) of the body and head together using the C1

yarn tail from the body. Then, use C2 yarn to sew the C2 color portion (back side) of

the two pieces together.

Insert a hdc in the same st. Make a ch. FO with a tail and pull both
the starting and ending yarn

second ear.

Parts

Once all parts are crocheted, you are ready for the finishing instructions!

Finishing (Note: photos below are of a different pattern, but the concept is the same.)

Sew the arms to the sides of Top view of arms attached. Sew tail to the bottom of the
