Materials List:
Yarn, in Worsted weight, all amounts are approximate:
Base panel: 47 yds per panel (1 panel per wing)
Panels: 31 yds per panel (5-6 panels per wing)
Body color: 127 yds for both wings

G (4.0mm) Hook

Darning Needle

Polyfil

Armature Wire ¼ Inch, 10 Feet length

Wire cutter or other tool that will cut through ¼ inch wire

**Important Note: This pattern is for the wings only. You will need an ADULT DRAGON or FAIRY
CAT DRAGON (or another large Crafty Intentions Dragon) to attach the wings to. It is highly
recommended you use a standing dragon or a sitting dragon with two straight FULL FRONT LEGS. The
wire for the wings will run down the length of the front legs to provide additional support. Assemble your
dragon fully EXCEPT for sewing and stuffing the front legs (DO add 18 gauge wire to the front legs as
directed in the Dragon pattern). You can start to sew the UNSTUFFED and wired upper front legs to the
body, but you must leave the tops of the legs open – you will need to insert the sturdy wing wire into the
standing front legs once the wings are assembled. DO NOT add gems to the feet of the dragon’s front legs;
the wire will not fit in the feet if you use glass gems. For the Fairy Cat Dragon, you may also wish to add
18 gauge floral wire to the rear legs to help with stability; this is entirely optional.

Glossary of Terms:

[Brackets] Brackets [like this] are used to indicate that these stitches are BLO or FLO. Ex.: BLO
[SC 6]
& Located between two stitches, the & indicates that both stitches are made into the same
stitch, as an increase – but with two different types of stitches.
< or > Indicates the stitch will start (<) or finish (>) in the same stitch as the last stitch or
the next stitch.
<Dec> Beginning in the SAME stitch as your last stitch, make a decrease stitch into that
and the next stitch, then into the same stitch that the decrease stitch ends in, begin
your next stitch.

sections will come out exactly as shown.

26. You should already have (at least) an 18g paper-wrapped stem wire inside each standing
leg/foot of the dragon. Because these wings are so big, I strongly recommend that you make
your dragon either standing with standing front legs or sitting with the full standing front legs.
Do not make this dragon with one foot up in the air, as you will need the stability of both
standing feet. This wire is positioned by creating a circle with the wire to insert into the
bottom of the foot, the wire should extend through the inside plane of the leg and be inserted
into the body and exit the body near the spine of the dragon where you want the wing to be
attached.

Take your wing wire (Armature Wire 1/4 Inch (.25) 10', 10Ft, Silver)

And start straightening it to match the edge of your wing.

Mark or hold the wire where the base of the wing is.

Straighten enough of the rest of the wire to extend along the straight length of the standing
front leg of whatever Dragon pattern you’re adding these wings to. Align the mark you made
on the wire (where the wing ends) with the top of the leg. Trim the wire to 2-3 inches beyond
the toe of the front leg. You will use this extra length to make a small circle to fit inside the
foot.

27. You will be inserting the wire into the length of the straight standing front leg. You will be
bending a circle of the wire to be inserted into the foot of the dragon’s leg so that the wire
extends all the way to the surface the dragon is sitting on by passing down the leg of the
dragon to the foot.

If you cannot bend a tight enough circle of this wire to fit into the foot of the dragon, you can
trim the wire exactly and then wrap the end of the wire in duct tape to prevent any sharp part
of the wire from damaging the inside of the foot of the dragon.

28. Insert the wire into the unstuffed, ALREADY WIRED front leg of the dragon.

29. Stuff the leg of the dragon after you insert this wire.
30. Again, You should already have (at least) an 18g paper-wrapped stem wire inside the leg/foot
of the dragon. This wire is positioned by creating a circle with the wire to insert into the
bottom of the foot, the wire should extend through the inside plane of the leg and be inserted
into the body and exit the body near the spine of the dragon where you want the wing to be
attached.

You will use this wire to begin to secure the thick armature wire to the dragon’s body. Tape
the two together with strips of duct tape.

31. Take one additional piece of 18g paper-wrapped stem wire and insert it through the shoulder
of the dragon only a stitch or two away from your other wires. This will serve to further
stabilize the wing wire. Tape the wires together again with thin strips of duct tape.

32. Pin the wing edge around the wire, using the yarn tail sew it to attach with tiny stitches to
envelope the wire in the edge and fully enclose it. You may wish to pin both wings in place
along the wire and check that the dragon is stable enough to stand with both wings in place
before you sew. You may need to adjust your wire position to get the wings to stay straight.
If your wings tend to slide backwards, particularly on the Fairy Cat Dragon, see note below.

Pro-Tip: If the front legs on your dragon have a tendency to slide forward under the weight
of the wings (particularly on the Fairy Cat Dragon), you can use two, shorter lengths of thick
¼” wire to minimize this. Measure your wire so that it extends from the first bend in the
wings, down the lower part of the wing, into the shoulder, then curves backwards to follow
the spine to around the hip area (following the red line in the photo below). Cut your wire to
fit, bend it into shape, and insert one end into the shoulder of the dragon a stitch above and

behind where the 18 gauge leg wire extends out of the shoulder (you may wish to cover this
end in duct tape to make it easier to insert). Gently guide the wire down the back of the
dragon to the hip. Tape the end that extends out of the shoulder to the other two wires with
duct tape. This should keep the wings from tilting backwards under their own weight and
make them more stable. This is entirely optional and may not be necessary for your dragon.

33. Pin the rest of the wing down along the back of the dragon and sew to attach it in place. See
photos in the Dragon pattern for visuals on how to sew the regular wings to the body – the
technique is the same for the Pride Wings.

This wire is positioned by creating a circle with the wire to insert into the
bottom of the foot, the wire should extend through the inside plane of the leg and be inserted
into the body and exit the body near the spine of the dragon where you want the wing to be
attached.

Take your wing wire (Armature Wire 1/4 Inch (.25) 10', 10Ft, Silver) and start straightening it
to match the edge of your wing.

You will use this extra length to make a small circle to fit inside the
foot. (see full pattern for photos).

Pro-Tip: If the front legs on your dragon have a tendency to slide forward under the weight of
the wings (particularly on the Fairy Cat Dragon), you can use two, shorter lengths of thick ¼”
wire to minimize this. Measure your wire so that it extends from the first bend in the wings,
down the lower part of the wing, into the shoulder, then curves backwards to follow the spine
to around the hip area (following the red line in the photo in the full pattern). Cut your wire
to fit, bend it into shape, and insert one end into the shoulder of the dragon a stitch above and
behind where the 18 gauge leg wire extends out of the shoulder (you may wish to cover this
end in duct tape to make it easier to insert).
