The creator of the Telephone


In 1667, Robert Hooke was the creator of the acoustic string telephone. He used mechanical vibrations

through an extended wire.

Alexander Graham Bell


In July 1874, Alexander developed the thought of the telephone while on a vacation at his parents farm near

Branford. His father Alexander Melville Bell recorded notes of his sons conversation in his journal.

Emile Berliner
On the 4th of July in 1877 Emile filed a telephone that included a carbon microphone

transmitter.

Bell Telephone Company


In the early months of 1879 the Bell Telephone Company was almost bankrupted. They were

desperate to get a transmitter equal to Edison's carbon transmitter.

First Radiotelephone
On July 16th, 1920 was the worlds first radiotelephone service was between Los Angeles, CA and Santa

Catalina Island.

Worlds first NMT call


The worlds first NMT call was in 1978 in Tampere, Finland.

Worlds first transatlantic fiber optic cable.


In 1988 the first transatlantic fiber optic cable was made. It was the TAT-8. It was carrying over 40,000

circuits.

Mink, Louisiana
Mink, Louisiana was the last community in the U.S to receive a landline telephone service in 2005!

Conclusion
The first sample time of a telephone was created in 1667. With two cans and a wire. Now in 2013 the

telephone continues to develop and is an important part of our lives today.
