Humanities Essay Ms. Hannah English 9 September 17, 2013 Migration Maria was born in a planet, called the earth. She is a 14 years old girl and everything about her life is nothing but normal until she moved to her grandparents house. She lived almost half of her life with her parents in Indonesia. When she was seven years old, her family emigrated from Indonesia and immigrated to the United States, New York to be more specific, where her grandparents were living. They moved because of that social factor and also economic factor. One year living there, her family decided to migrate (internal migration). They moved into a small town and lived there with her parents and grandparents. Maria adapted very well there and she met some new friends, until one day when she found a big cupboard in a room near her grandparents room. She decided to open the cupboard and stepped in where then she realized that the cupboard was a secret way that would lead her to a whole new place. A little while after that, she then learned that the place that she was standing on is Narnia. A place where animals could talk and there were other impossible things that would never happen in the earth she was raised. Basically, she immigrated to Narnia and settled in for a few years which actually only meant a few hours in Earth. This is called the external migration. But after about years of living there, she started to think about how she missed her family and how dangerous Narnia was that time. That push factors, which includes social and political factors, were the main reason why Maria wanted to go home to Earth.

But, she couldnt find her way home so instead of coming back to Narnia, she stayed at a beach and fell asleep. She woke up in a different island and realized that a big storm just passed her by. She had immigrated to another island. Maria decided to search for something that might be useful to build shelter or maybe food to eat, because all she could see from that beach was only blue wavy ocean. After a day without food and shelter, she decided to emigrate from the beach and immigrated into the deeper part of the island. There were so many push factors, and no pull factors that made her did the external migration into the deep forest inside the island. Starting from lack of food and shelter, no safety, lack of health care which already included economic, social, and political factors. In the woods, she faced a new problem because she just realized that small animals like insects looked very big and the big animals looked small. So, she decided to be focus and try to find a way so that she could go back to meet her family. She made a small boat made out of woods and tried to get away from the island but she was stucked in a big storm and lost in the sea. The weird thing is that suddenly she woke up on the floor next to the cupboard on her grandparents house. She went to see her family while having a thought about what she had learned suring her adventure. She realized that there were a lot of push factors that motivates her to not live in any of the places that she just went not a while ago. There were some pull factors, but it wont be enough to motivate her to settle in those places. Maria discussed with her parents about returning back to Indonesia because she missed all of her friends there, and also the hot weather. After some discussion about the push and pull factors of moving back to Indonesia, they decided to move back. They became immigrants once again and migrated (return migration) to Indonesia. Her parents agreed

with her that this is their last time in doing migration, because there wasnt any push factors that could motivate them to move from Indonesia.
