The Tell Tale Heart

The case dated May 22, 2011 concerns the murder committed by John L. Smith. After analyzing and meeting with the accused, its been concluded that he suffers from serious psychological disorder. He insists that he is hearing things that the others dont hear. The accused, Carlos Ramirez, claims to have been very disturbed by his masters left eye. He says that it is the eye of the devil so therefore he needed to purge himself of it. The accused says the he allegedly hears all the things in the heaven and in the earth. This shows that the patient believes that he has some type of superhuman power to hear things from heaven & hell. Carlos proclaimed that the thoughts of the evil eye haunted him day and night. These deranged thoughts enveloped his mind, which shows that it is easy for him to believe in these manufactured thoughts. When he realized that what bothered him about his master was the eye, he immediately decided that he was going to murder the man. He was willing to kill the master that he claimed to love so much, because of the eye that made himuncomfortable. Throughout the session, Mr. Carlos Ramirez repetitively said that I thought he was mad. He insisted that I thought he was insane and he was determined to prove to me that he wasnt. He would explain and further proceed with the story but the more I heard the more I was convinced that he is mentally ill. For over the period of one week, the accused would quietly and discreetly watch his master while he slept. He devoted a lot of time and effort into sneaking into his masters room and yet he was very convinced that these bizarre actions were what made him sane. The accused complained that he couldnt commit the murder at during the night because the eye was closed when the man was sleeping. What worries me about this is that he didnt process the very simple fact that if the man is sleeping, his eyes are closed. Although he knew that the man was sleeping, at 12, he never failed to have his head peeking in and watching his master sleeping. The murder took place on the accuseds eighth night of watching the man sleeping. For over a week, Mr. Ramirez watched his master sleeping, which shows that, he is of a disturbed nature. When he thinks that the man hears him come inside, he finds it amusing and isnt worried at all. He claims to have not even moved away or show any sign of panic even when the man sat up and asked who was there. Not even then did the accused worry about getting caught, because for over an hour he just didnt move. He seemed to have been okay with just staying there and waiting for the right time o make his move. The accused admits that he was aware of the fear that arose from the bottom of the soul when overcharged with awe. He, again, claims to know how his master felt within his soul. The accused still saw absolutely nothing wrong with his behavior and thought that he was actually more gifted than most with his senses sharper than most.

Right before committing the crime, the accused says that he was nervous. He suddenly started to feel terror and he started to hear the loud, heavy, sound of his masters heart. This shows that he is emotionally unstable. At one minute hes brave, the next hes having an anxiety attack. Finally when he had already killed his master, instead of panicking and showing some form of concern, he smiled and took his hand a placed on the mans heart. The accused when through all this because he felt the mans eye was disturbing him when in fact the eye did nothing. The obviously disturbed man thought that getting rid of the body was the easiest yet most careful part of the process. He didnt bother going and burying the body whole, he instead cut off his former masters limbs and pit him in the floor of the house. He felt as though this was the logical thing to do. When the cops came over to the house to search it, he still didnt worry for he had hid the body well enough. The accused showed more signs of emotional instability when he started to become nervous and worried when they finished searching the home. Mr. Ramirez claimed to have started to hear the sound of a beating heart again and started to act in a strange manner. He panicked and was obviously disrupted by the sound. When he realized that the cops werent hearing the noise, he immediately assumed that they were playing mind game with him so he panicked and told the cops where he had out the body. This shows some strong signs of psychological due to the fact that half of the events that occurred in the mans eyes were in his own head. He manufactured sounds in his own head and blamed it on others.
