Implementation of a 2D FIR Filter Using the Signed-Digit Number System!" A#S$RA%$: An FIR filter is implemented in this work. Enhancing the arithmetic operations of the filter is considered. For the addition operation, the signed-digit number s stem is utili!ed. For the multiplication operation, "ooth-# algorithm is used to reduce the number of partial products. Then a $% filter is used to construct a &% filter that is deplo ed on real hardware in an image processing application. #&'%( DIA)RAM:

The number of partial products increases the multiplier si!e, which has a significant effect on the filter si!e. (ince the con/erter dela propagate- free arithmetic. 1hen considering using signed-digit number s stem in filters, it is highl suggested to make the whole %(2 s stem, which the filter is a part of, based on signed-digit representation.
