INTRODUCTION

In this type of experiment which is to study the effect of residence time on the reaction in a plug flow reactor (PFR), the reaction of sodium hydroxide and ethyl acetate was used to be as reactants to achieve our objective. At the beginning of the experiment, we need to fill the two tank reactor which is one tank is for sodium hydroxide and the other one is ethyl acetate. 0.1 M sodium hydrixide and 0.1 M ethyl acetate was prepared by our group to fill the two tank reactor before we proceed to our next step that is to switch ON the PFR. The two tank reactor can achieve only 55 L of liquid. Our demonstrator told that the two tank not empty, it has some ethyl acetate in one reactor and some sodium hydroxide in another reactor left. So, we need to measure again how much sodium hydroxide and ethyl acetate that are still in the tank. The volume of sodium hydroxide in tank is 29.4 L and 35.5 L for ethyl acetate. So, we only need to prepare 25.6 L more for sodium hydroxide and 19.5 L for ethyl acetate to achieve 55 L full tank before we start our experiment result. After done with the preparation of the reactant in the tank, we need to adjust the flow rate to 0.5 L/s at two pump that is F1301 and F1302. then, we click the start button in screen of computer and take the residence time for the reaction. At the same time, we need to take out the output product to do the titration. The experiment was repeated using another difference flow rate which is 1.0 L/s and 1.5 L/s. The result was recorded to calculate the residence of time reaction and conductivity.
