Jessica Salgado May 15, 2013 Nutrition 302 Advance Nutrition was a challenging class that really emphasized

the importance of nutrition in regards to the physiological systems. I learned a lot of valuable information in regards to proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, fiber, energy transformation, Vitamins and minerals in relation to nutrition and physiological components. Even though some of the ideas were review for Nutrition 201, Biochemistry, chemistry, and Biology it gave me a more detailed understands in what I supposed to know as a nutrition. This class showed me how the nutrition curriculum and all the sciences class Ive taken work together in regards to human nutrition and gave me a better knowledgeable background in nutritional sciences, which I liked. I enjoyed the class, even though the material was challenging to learn. Dr. Kern taught this class and was a very humorous instructor. He would lecture the class so we all remember the material in a different ways, so I felt really engaged and interested when learning all of the information. Even though some of the material wasnt always so easy to understand and remember, he did an excellent job teaching material thats not always so easy to grasp. The lab portion of 302, taught by Dr. Hong, also made me enjoy this class. One of the main reason is because instead of just learning about the ideas and theories, I got to apply them by measuring biochemical markers in class like blood glucose, hemoglobin, albumin, hematocrit, cholesterol, and triglycerides. An activity that enhanced my learning was when the class conducted an animal study on lab rats. The objective of the study was too evaluate if watermelon powder could improve the effects of cardiovascular disease and inflammation markers on rats being fed a high fat and sugar diet. This project that helped me understand some of the ideas that

all students have been learning in nutrition and science classes. Another very important idea that we learned about is the Nutrition Care Process that we will be learning about more in future MNT classes. The Nutrition 302 lecture and lab were by far my favorite class this entire semester because they I enjoyed the material as well as both professors teaching styles. Im also really relieved and happy that my hard work and countless of hours of studying has paid off since I will be getting As in both classes, if I do decent in the lecture final.
