Alex Herb EN 466 Professor Bennett 14 September 2011 Classroom Management Philosophy Why is it important that teachers spend

d some time developing and refining a classroom management philosophy? I believe it is important for teachers to have their own classroom management philosophy because it is part of their own personal beliefs that will help assist them in their own classroom. Teachers need to have a plan for how they want to run their own classroom management; it needs to be based on what the needs are of the teacher and the students of a classroom. Without having an initial plan, a teacher will not know what to do when certain situations arise. What is the definition of management used in this philosophy? Management is making decisions based on what is best for the students and for you as a teacher. It is a process used by teachers to provide the most effective learning environment possible by setting guidelines, rules, and a plan for the classroom. What is/are the purposes of a management plan? The main purpose of a management plan is to provide the best learning atmosphere for students to be comfortable, safe, and able to learn in. Management plans are designed to assist the teacher in controlling the atmosphere of the classroom and the behaviors of the students. Without management plans in place, the classroom would be a difficult place to learn and teach in because disruptions would be constant and continuous.

What beliefs regarding how people are to be treated in the educational system form the basis for this philosophy?

As a part of the educational system, regardless of status between students, teachers, and administration, everyone expects to be treated with respect and fairness. These beliefs are what drive a management plan because we as teachers want our classrooms to be full of equal learning opportunities and respect for everyone. They are the main reasons for having a management plan to begin with because if one student is being disruptive, it affects the class as a whole and prevents an equal opportunity for learning.
