Discovery Center Book Fest!

On Saturday November 23rd, The Discovery Center was transformed into an underwater paradise for a day of fun inspired by the childrens book, Mermaids on Parade. Every other day of the year, The Discovery Center is a hands-on childrens museum, as well as the location of many preschool and afterschool programs. On this special day, all of the museums exhibits were open and running; however, tables were set up all over the grounds hosting different projects. Many of these projects were created and hosted by Binghamton University Students, over 30 of which came from Hinman College. Hinman College Councils Vice President of Service and Leadership, Clare Gilroy created a list of activities, from bookmark making to face painting, all of which were run by involved member of our community! Students also ran programs based off of the exhibits already present in the museum, like the supermarket. This was Clares third Service Saturday; a monthly activity thats main goal is to give back to the local community. In the past, the Hinman community painted flowerpots that were donated to a nursing home and cleaned up a portion of the Susquehanna River. Dont miss out on future opportunities to give back to the local community, whether it is through The Discovery Center, Hinman or any other organization! Below will be links to start looking for opportunities to get involved and some pictures from the event!
