Challenges in Literacy; launches SHS Reading Garden

English Department of NLGMINHS joined the National Reading Month through its varied and diverse reading activities which were conducted, Nov. 22 and 29 to enrich and reignite the passion to read and make it a part of everyday habit among students both in JHS and SHS. Meanwhile, the attendees of the program were all ears to a man of wisdom, who will not be inspired with the welcome message of nonetheless, the supportive Dr. Francisco Jr. Panopio who shared his thoughts about being happy while learning and gave emphasis on his version of the moral story of “Peter Pan”. That every moment of stay in the school should always be filled with happiness. “Ang hiling ko sa bawat isa sa inyo ay maging masaya at ienjoy ang buhay. Sana ay maging masaya kayo sa araw na ito. God has made the world for you to enjoy. Look at the bright side of things.” Dr. Panopio emphasized Thus, one of the purposes of the school’s English Festival anchored on DepEd’s Reading Month is to have the learners carry a happy heart who is eager to learn more through Reading. Another highlight is the message of support of one of the school’s major stakeholders from the Bay Municipality, Hon. Cesar D. Comia, Committee on Education. Councilor Comia stated that bright future awaits the learners thus they have to enjoy learning. The event even become more meaningful when the winners of book or literary characters had their parade of costumes while in character. The book lovers and reading enthusiasts gave their yells and loud cheers for their favorite literary characters. Furthermore, SDO Laguna EPS Ma’am Ruth Camacho, Bay District PSDS Dr, Allan Hostalero also showed their valuable support to Galvezino as they appreciate the interactive quiz bee literature and launching of SHS Reading Garden under Project PUNLA, headed by Dr. Elsa L. Gabriel, SHS Master Teacher II in English. Display of grand costumes of the literary characters and how they project were commendable as viewed by the Grade 7 and Grade 8 students with their English teachers. Finally, various activities such as declamation, speech choir, storytelling, book cover making, tiktok reading challenge, oration, reading marathon puzzle, essay writing were conducted across all levels in the school. Winners were awarded during the culminating activity.
