ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT

Project OROadlaw BASA

(in support to BriGADA BASA sa Napapanahong Plataporma)

The ability to read means the ability to comprehend any printed text.
Reading skills and ability play a vital role in raising academic performance of
every individual as well as in functioning in today’s society. With the fast pace
of life today and the great knowledge explosion, there is so much printed
material around us that the ability to read has become a most important asset.
Aldous Huxley once said, “Every man who knows how to read has it in his
power to magnify himself. To multiply the ways he exists, to make his life full,
significant and interesting”.

Understanding the significance of reading and in support to the BriGADA

BASA of SDO Masbate Province, Puro National High launched the Project
OROadlaw BASA with its aim of instilling in the hearts and minds of Puro
NHS learners the genuine love for reading, bringing the love of reading to the
community, gaining support from various sectors in the community to be
reading agents and become school partners in promoting genuine love for
reading to all stakeholders and fostering joy, love, and compassion to the
school’s community.

It all started with a simple planning of the English Teachers led by the
proponent, Ms. Emily R. Lobino, then it was presented to the Principlal Madam
Rosa Myra T. Franco for approval. Prior to the conduct of the project launching,
the proponent in collaboration with the English Teachers made a thorough
planning as to making the event something exciting and memorable for both the
teachers, learners, the parents and the whole community. The event was
highlighted with launching of the project “OROadlaw BASA”, then Signing of
Commitment of Support participated by the principal, teachers and the parents.
Then, the Amazing Reading Race composed of different five stations namely:
Station 1-SING WITH ME; Station 2-TONGUE TWISTER; Station 3-
BALLOON POPPING; Station 4-MESSAGE RELAY; and Station 5-GUESS
ME. It was all facilitated by the English Teachers assisted by the rest of the
teachers. The said race was in a form of contest where the first team (each
composed of 6 members) to finish the race received the major prizes in a form
of 5 kilos rice

each participant all donated by the English Teachers while the remaining 4
teams all received 2 kilos each of rice, 2 cans of sardines and noodles shared by
Puro National High School Faculty. After the reading race followed the reading
sessions facilitated by Ms. Leny L. Ladera and Mr. Raymundo F. Bien, Science
and MAPEH teachers and while the learners and parents were listening to the
story telling sessions, snacks were served to them.

To add color, meaning and fun to the celebration, there were Book Party
and Basa-Ukay. Learners and parents were free to select any reading materials
they feel like reading, Basa-Ukay where the parents read, then after they are to
select or some kind of “dig” or “sift through” 2-3 pcs. of clothes from the pile of
preloved clothes placed on the mat all shared by the teachers. Though it was just
a simple gesture of love from the teachers but such simple act of love somehow
brought them unexplained joy seeing the smiles and excitement on the faces of
the parents while doing the “halukay-ukay” thing.

Both the learners and their parents received Certificates of

Appreciation/Participation in recognition of their active participation. They
went home with smiles on their faces with the new learnings and enjoyment
they gained and shared not to mention the prizes they altogether brought home
as an expression of how they are loved and valued by Puro NHS family.

Summing it up, the launching of Project OROadlaw BASA was quite a

challenge on our part considering the limitations of time in the planning and
preparation, scarcity of resources plus the many restrictions in our movements
due to the observance of IATF health standards and safety protocols but we
succeeded in beating all the odds as the line simply goes, “if there’s a will,
there’s a way”.

As long as the commitment, dedication and passion of teachers remain in

their hearts, as long as there are people who are willing to take extra mile to
extend support to education there will always be a way to ensure the continuity
of education even in the midst of this crisis that we are all into.

The conduct of the said project somehow sheds light of hope and
positivity to those in attendance, proves the ingenuity of SDO Masbate Province
family to continue thinking of ways just to fit to the new normal scenario in
education and serves as a simple reminder that we all play roles in making this
world a better place for everyone, a place where negativity cannot grow and
prosper.

For all these, KUDOS to our donors Ms. Bonnievie Villanueva, Ms.
Andianeth Balatayo, Mr. Jan Michael Carbellido, to supportive School Head,
Madam Rosa Myra T. Franco, to the prime movers – English Teachers led the
proponent Ms. Emily R. Lobino, Puro NHS family, the supportive parents, dear
students, the Brgy LGU of Puro and its whole community and to the many other
people who have been part and parcel in making this worthy endeavor a grand
success!
