NARRATIVE REPORT
2023 NATIONAL READING MONTH CELEBRATION
November 6-29, 2023

The Reading Month Celebration was a month-long event held in our school to promote
and cultivate a love for reading among learners, teachers, and staff. The celebration aimed to
underscore the importance of reading in enhancing knowledge, widening imagination, and
developing critical thinking skills.
The primary objective of the Reading Month Celebration was to foster a reading culture
within the school community. The specific goals included encouraging regular reading habits,
promoting diverse genres, and instilling a sense of joy and curiosity associated with literature.
To kick off the Reading Month, a simple program was held on November 07, 2023.
Selected pupils who are really reader’s lover displayed their talents in oral reading,
interpretative reading, retelling a story, giving moral lessons from the stories that have been
read and the story telling of the mystery reader followed by a comprehension check-up to the
pupils. All were very active in answering the questions making the program interesting and full
of learning.
On the duration of the monthly reading celebration, every grade level from kindergarten
to Grade 6 started their lesson through reading poem, short stories, rhymes, riddles, tongue
twisters, spelling and word configuration. During the one o’clock reading habit, pupils read by
pairs, by group or individually. PTA Officers took part also in the celebration wherein they
randomly selected pupils to read with themselves.
To culminate the reading celebration, different contested activities were assigned to
every grade level.
Kindergarten : Coloring Activity,
Grade 1 : Draw and Tell
Grade 2; Poem Recitation
Grade 3: Interpretative Reading
Grade 4: Role Playing/Dramatization
Grade 5: Reading with Comprehension
Grade 6: Poster Slogan

Awarding of winners were done in the afternoon. Top 5 winners were given certificate
of Recognition and medals. The learners were encouraged more to foster their love for reading.

Hence, the Reading Month Celebration was a resounding success, creating a vibrant and
dynamic atmosphere of literary engagement within the school. It not only achieved its primary
objective of promoting a love for reading but also fostered a sense of community among
students, teachers, and staff. The celebration laid the foundation for a sustained reading
culture, encouraging lifelong learning and intellectual curiosity. As we conclude the Reading
Month Celebration, we look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to nurture a
community of avid readers in the years to come.
