Ancient Rome: Citizenship

The Rome civilization started in 800 B.C. That was a really long time ago. But, even though it was long ago, the way they ruled, the way they gave citizenship to the Romans, has an impact on the modern world. I used to wonder why the world was how it is. I wondered how they came up with the idea of making laws, how they thought of giving people the right to do many things. This made me research about it. When I researched, I learned that it was because of the way Ancient Rome ruled. When I learned that National History Day was coming up, I wanted to go in more depth of how Ancient Rome ruled and the many ways citizenship was granted to the Romans. When I researched, I searched up many websites. I also used books about Rome. On websites, I was able to find many things, like the rights of the Romans, the responsibilities of Romans, etc. I was also able to find pictures of Ancient Rome and the classes, like the slaves. For the books, I was able to find things like the groups in Ancient Rome, the way they lived, and many other things. I chose to do a website because I thought that it would be the best way to present all the information about Rome and the way they ruled. My topic contains a lot of information, so I will be able to fit these information on the website. Websites have features like audio and pictures. With these features, I will be able to represent the citizenship of Rome thoroughly. My project relates to this years theme, which is Rights and Responsibilities, because my topic focuses on the rights of Romans. In Ancient Rome, everyone was put into 1 of 3 groups. Each of these groups were given certain rights, based on what the group is. And, with each group, everyone in those groups have responsibilities. For example, slaves. Slaves didnt have much rights. And, they were treated like property. They werent treated like humans. Their responsibilities were to obey their master and do what they were told to do. Romans were greedy for power. They were unfair, they treated people lowly, and they made people kill each other. They treated slaves as property. They didnt care who they were, men, women, children, boys, or girls. But even after all of this, the Ancient Rome world will be forever remembered. They have influenced us all today. Because of them, we have laws and rights. And because we have laws and rights, everyone is able to live the life they want to live.
