SCRIPT TITLE
EXT. PIER/BRIDGE- DAY A young man (LUCAS) is stood at the edge of a pier/bridge starring directly out into a large body of water. There doesnt seem to be anybody around and the current weather makes the entire area seem very grey and dull. LUCAS looks depressed, his face solemn with darkly ringed eyes, and a prominent frown.
There is a small pause as LUCAS stands surveying the water from his spot.
INT/EXT. MONTAGE- VARIOUS LOCATIONS There follows several montage clips which show LUCAS is currently down on his luck. These include LUCAS opening a letter addressed to him which reveals his car is about to be repossessed, a call in which he is told he is being laid off from work, him returning home and trying to unlock his front door- only to find the locks have been changed and he has been evicted and also LUCAS drowning his sorrows on a park bench with a bottle of beer.
After the montage, we return to Lucas who is still stood at the pier/bridge. He looks down, closes his eyes and takes a deep breath before looking back up towards the body of water. He then begins to walk towards the edge of the bridge- slowly at first, but then building up to a brisk walk. He quickly begins to run full pelt towards the edge- in a crazy, fixated state.

There is a brief silence Lucas seems to contemplate how to respond. He has a look of surprise on his face. He looks over his shoulder at the water, sighs heavily and then turns back to face Jess. LUCAS No... Not, not really.
Jess cautiously takes a few steps towards Lucas. She has a concerned look on her face.
After giving her an annoyed look, Lucas looks back out to the water.
Jess turns and walks away. As she does so, Lucas turns once again to face the water. At that moment however, there is suddenly a massive fit of coughing and spluttering coming from where Jess had walked to. Lucas turns with a look of confusion on his face to the source of the noise. As the sound gets louder, he slowly walks towards it.

EXT. AROUND THE CORNER FROM PIER Once he rounds a corner (The same corner Jess walked around) he spots Jess sat down on the ground leaning against a wall, clutching her chest and coughing violently. LUCAS What the... Are you okay?
Jess, noticing Lucas has followed her looks up. This reveals she has an intense expression of horror plastered on her face. Her eyes are watering, her face is a scarlet red. Still spluttering, she signals towards a bag she was earlier carrying, which she has dropped a few feet away from her. Lucas jobs over and collects the bag.
He brings the bag over to her and opens it as Jess begins to rummage around inside of it. She finally produces an inhaler, but drops it as she is coughing and trying to take the lid off. Lucas picks it up, takes the lid off and hands it to her. LUCAS (CONTD) Here, use it!
Jess struggles to comply, but once again drops the inhaler due to her intense coughing. At this point, Lucas picks it up, kneels down next to her and helps insert the inhaler into her mouth.
He presses the inhalers button. After several seconds, Jess coughing seems to calm down. Her eyes still watering and still slightly breathless, Jess looks up at Lucas. JESS Tha...thank you.
Lucas looks down at the ground as if brushing off the gratitude. He then looks back up and straight at Jess.
Jess smiles slightly and nods. Lucas then stands, extends an hand to Jess and helps her up. LUCAS (CONTD) So whats your name?
4.
JESS Jess. And whats yours? The two begin to walk away. LUCAS My names Lucas. FADE OUT TO BLACK
Lucas throws a hand outwards signalling for Jess to look around the room. He then reaches inside his jacket and produces a bunch of documents and envelopes which have been messily folded together. He then nonchalantly throws them on the table in front of Jess.
Jess timidly picks up one of the documents and skim-reads it. LUCAS (CONTD) And all of this has happened at once. (MORE)
5. LUCAS (CONTD) Ill tell ya something- someone up there must really hate me.
JESS So youre feeling bullied? LUCAS Yes, exactly!...wait...No! Yes... I dont know. I wouldnt say bullied exactly.
6.
JESS Tomorrow could be the day things work themselves out. LUCAS What the hell is that supposed to mean? JESS Well, if you take your life today, youll never know if tomorrow was going to be the day everything got better. Its something to think about.
7.
There is a brief silence as Lucas stares blankly at Jess. She also looks back at him, but then quickly looks down at the table they are sat at. JESS Im at the bridge most days around the same time we met today. If we meet again tomorrow, we can talk more. You just need somebody to help you put things into perspective.
Lucas is sat back on the bench near the water. He is obviously waiting, tapping his foot. He also has a slightly annoyed look on his face, as though he has been waiting for a while.
After a little longer, Lucas gets up off of the bench quickly and walks away from the area.

LUCAS (V.O) (CONTD) I decided to pay her a visit. INT. A BLOCK OF FLATS- DAY Lucas walks into a block of flats and makes his way to a particular flat after consulting a piece of paper he has. As Lucas walks down a corridor, he passes two people who are carrying miscellaneous items out, including bags. After consulting the piece of paper again, Lucas reaches a door, and is about to knock on it when it is opened by a MAN carrying a TV. LUCAS Oh sorry. Im looking for Jess? She was supposed to meet... MAN Are you Lucas? Jess told us all about you. Im sorry. Lucas has a small confused smile on his face at this point. LUCAS She did? What do you mean by sorry?
The man hastily puts the TV down on the ground inside the flat before extending a hand to shake Lucas.
There is a brief silence as Lucass face slowly contorts into an expression of fear. He looks away from Henry and down at the ground. HENRY It was an asthma attack apparently. The familys just here to collect her belongings. It looked like she might have been on her way to see you when we found her. She always liked to visit that bridge where you met her. Thats where we lost our mother years ago. She hasnt really been the same since.

Lucas ignores him continues to run, knocking the people that were carrying the miscellaneous items earlier aside as he does so. He doesnt take any notice of them however, and continues to run down the corridor and out of the flats through the entrance that he came in by. EXT. STREETS- DAY
Lucas is running through the busy streets past shops and houses. As he runs, his face becomes red and his expression contorts to that of sheer anger. The people that he passes on the streets watch him as he runs by and each of them have a look of confusion on his face as he does so. Lucas eventually reaches his destination, which happens to once again be the bridge he contemplated committing suicide at earlier.
bridge, facing towards the signs of absolute sorrow, and eyes which are welling from all of the running he
Lucas takes a deep breath and takes a large step backwards, before then running towards the edge of the bridge. LUCAS (V.O) (CONTD) But then I remembered what she had told me.
Lucas suddenly comes to an abrupt halt, right at the bridges edge. His nerves seem to fade away, with the panic he had earlier with his heavy breathing and trembling slowly disappearing.
At this point, Lucas looks out to the water once more. He then slowly turns away from the water and walks away from it.

However, after a few steps, he turns back to face it, and a smile forms on his face. He then turns and carries on leaving the area. FADE TO BLACK.
