Activity On a Page:

Current Affairs
Activity Description: Current Affairs Time Estimate: 30 minutes each
evening
Purpose Statement: To raise the awareness of each young man and to help each young man recognize the
importance of their involvement and citizenship in community and world events. Also to help the young men
recognize the importance of the Gospel, and Heavenly Father’s watching care over all his children.
Resources Needed: Connections with Duty To God
• 1-4 newspaper articles regarding local and global events for Program:
each scout. • Personal Spiritual Development
• The scriptures. • Citizenship and Social
• A journal or paper and pen for each young man. Development
Preparations Prior to Camp:
• Review each of the articles and prepare a scripture or quote from a
prophet (if applicable).
• Decide which leader or scout will lead the discussion and when and
where the discussion will happen.

Step-by-Step Instructions to Perform Activity:
• Around the campfire, lead a discussion, having each boy share what
their article was about.
• If possible, tie the news article to a gospel principle or to a short
scripture.
• Help the young men understand that Heavenly Father is aware of all
the things happening on the earth today, that He cares about each of
His children, and that as servants of God there are things that each
of us can do to influence the world for good.
