The Wizard of Oz- Old Scona


Wild twisters, dancing Munchkins, wicked witches, you name it. The rendition of the 194 !ersion of the musical The Wizard of Oz "y Old Scona#s Musical Theatre 1$ class %ro!ed to "e a fun and lighthearted %roduction. The %roduction was com%lete with a small li!e orchestra made u% of a few of the school#s talented musicians to accom%any the songs which ga!e the show a light, sim%listic feel, and the %erformance was wellrehearsed and on %oint. The Wizard of Oz is a classic story, ha!ing many different !ersions as musicals and films. The story tells of a girl named &orothy '(hloe )hang* from +ansas who gets whisked away in a twister to the magical land of O,, where she encounters a wicked witch '-le.ia Walsh* who is set on killing her. The lead role of &orothy, the dreamy and whimsical +ansas girl was %layed "y (hloe )hang, who charmed the audience with her adora"le demeanor. She did a stunning %erformance of the signature song Over the Rainbow which was "oth heartwarming and chilling with ins%iration. She did an outstanding /o" des%ite ha!ing such a "ig role and 0 am looking forward to seeing her in more %erformances1 -le.ia Walsh did a flawless %erformance as the main antagonist of the story, the Wicked Witch. She im%ressed her audience with a !ery witch-y tongue and intimidating %resence. She %layed the witch /ust as witches should "e %layed2 sinister, sadistic, and with a scary sense of humour. The "rainless scarecrow was %layed "y Martin 3au, who %ortrayed the scarecrow#s ditsy %ersonality e.tremely well and %erformed some !ery %rofessional stage falling. 0t was an outstanding %erformance that ne!er failed to make the audience laugh. 3ina 3im took on the %art of the so%%y tin man %ut on a heartwarming %erformance on the search for a heart. The cowardly lion was %layed "y Stanley 4ayward, who %layed the %art incredi"ly, in "oth the lion#s cowardly and courageous forms. &anielle 5erreault did an outstanding /o" as the lo!ely Sorceress of the 6orth. She %layed the %art with the elegant so%histication of the sorceress, in contrast to &orothy#s ner!ous state. The %art of the Wi,ard of O, was %layed "y 7ichard Wang, who did a wonderful %erformance, "oth in his frightening wi,ard alter ego and his wise and charismatic true self. Old Scona#s Musical Theatre 1$ class %ut on an ama,ing show with their %roduction of The Wizard of Oz and 0 am looking forward to seeing more shows in the future1
