Corus Engineering Steels

42CrMo4IM / 42CrMoS4IM
An improved machining, inclusion modified medium carbon alloy through hardening steel.
Features
Calcium treated steel for Inclusion modification Contains soft, deformable calcium aluminates encapsulated in manganese sulphide rather than hard alumina oxide inclusions Controlled analysis for consistent response to heat treatment, repeatable strength and fatigue properties Grain size 5 or finer Up to 30% longer tool life for a given cutting speed Up to 20% higher cutting speeds for a given tool life Compared with the standard grade the IM steel gives: Improved machinability with reduced machining cost

Benefits
The modified inclusions are less abrasive to cutting tools, acting as a lubricant and barrier at the tool / workpiece interface.
