MULTIPLE MEANIGS

Introduction
Multiple meaning words are words that have several meaning depending on how they are used in a sentence. Generally, those words are called Homograph. Example:
I hit the nail with a hammer, but it slipped on my nail. Nail = Something that goes with a hammer. Nail = Part of finger or toe.

Types
There are two main types of multiple meaning words: 1. Homographic Homophones / Homonyms 2. Homographic Heterophones / Heteronyms

Homographic Homophones / Homonyms


Homographic Homophones / Homonyms are words that are written or spelled identically and have the same pronunciation but they have different meaning. Example: Shut your mouth or a fly might fly into it. Fly = kind of insect Fly = to move using wings

I cant bear that bear. Bear = to carry Bear = a mammal That mine is mine, not yours. Mine = excavation Mine = possessive pronoun This health sandals are fit on my feet that make me fit. Fit = suitable Fit = healthy / good condition

Homographic Heterophones / Heteronyms


Homographic Heterophones / Heteronyms are words that are written or spelled identically but have a different pronunciation and meaning. Example: I wrote a resume to resume my working. Resume = a document of experience / CV Resume = to restart / continue
