remember that she told us when we were there that sne was concerned
about getting hauled before Congress or something - 1 hope that hasn't
happened now Who subpoenaed her (and others - presumably all the
ConOffs who issued visas to the hijackers)? We were trying to figure
out what case she'd be subpoenaed under and then thought perhaps it was
the special intel committee on the Hill. At any rate, I don't think
they will find it useful to talk to the individual consular officers,
since any problems that existed didn't lie with them. Hopefully all
wilt go well. :)
Judy wanted to know if you happen to know (or could find out) the date
on which Tom Furey started as CG in Riyadh. We know that he began in
September 2000, but I believe Judy wanted to know the exact day, if that
is possible. Also, I know that it was policy to destroy applications
for issuances after one year, but we wanted to ask just in case - do you
all still happen to have the applications for al-Hazmi (3 April 99) and
al-Midhar (7 April 99 - his first visa)? Maybe not, but if you did
still have them, it would make our review of the hijacker applications
that much more thorough.
Hope that you are able to wind down a bit this weekend to recover from
your vacation and travels - sometimes I know you need a vacation to
recover from a vacation! Thanks again for all your help!
