Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman was a short novel composed of 13 short stories

depicting the way lives of so many different people can coincide and all nd peace in one common place, the garden. The characters in the novel all carry different types of baggage, their struggles are not similar, but their coping mechanisms and healing processes all revolve around community gardens. Characters who have trouble adjusting to the American language, characters who want their ex girlfriend back, and characters who are pregnant at a young age, of all different ages and ethnicities, somehow all solve their problems by putting time and energy into a community garden. The garden is a healing place for all the characters in the story, and the novels main idea is that despite the various differences amongst people, they share a common ground which aids them all in some way shape or form. I thought this was a great quick read and really embodies the idea that despite our differences, as a nation and a people, we are one. It expressed that we are all human, and all heal the same way, therefore we mustn't alienate our neighbor, and instead understand that we are all more alike than we may think.
