Darryl Plummer Post Lesson Reflection (5 November 2013) 1. To what extent were lesson objectives achieved?

(Utilize assessment data to justify your level of achievement) Daily Objectives: Students will be able to (SWBAT) Break down the concept of a country into component parts Describe and defends a core concept of a country Appraise and critique a core concept of a country Reconstruct the concept of a country from component parts

Based on the warm-ups, group scratch sheets, class discussion, and paragraphs, I believe students were able to do this. During the discussion, we narrowed it down to the exact 5 concepts I was hoping for with little direction from me. In the paragraphs, I told students to express their own opinion (it could differ from the class opinion), and while some chose different concepts to include, they all had the same basic idea.

2. What changes, omissions, or additions to the lesson would you make if you were to teach again? The discussion was going well and I liked the groups, but the way I had groups put stuff on the board could be improved. Specifically, I went around to each group and wrote the concept they said on the board, and then debated it as a class. This got a little messy and while students were super engaged, it turned into a bit of a free for all. In the future (my university supervisor gave me this idea), I would have each group write their own list up on the board and then go through a circle similarities. We could then discuss the merits of the common concepts and why the other concepts fit into those or perhaps werent relevant. 3. What do you envision for the next lesson? (continued practice, reteach content, etc) I will move on after this. I will bring it up in later units (separatism in Spain) to have students think about the viability of a Basque state.
