Managing Literacy Groups and Centers:

Literacy groups will be broken up into same level groups. There will be a low, medium and high group. This will help students to feel comfortable and not inferior to others in the groups. Depending on the story or task at hand the groups will be shuffled to be at the same level. On occasion I will mix up the groups at random to help build students confidence.

Literacy Centers will be planned out and organized. Students will have a rotating chart so they know what center their group is supposed to be at. I will also choose centers that go along with whatever we are currently working on. Students will have some sort of ticket to turn in at the end of the majority of their centers. This way I know they are actually working. I will also assess them informally as I am walking around observing. I will take opportunities to help students who are struggling at the different centers.
