DETC 620: Training and Learning with Multimedia

What I knew about the course prior to taking it: Multimedia, a concept which is constantly changing and becoming more involved with technology, while maintaining a user friendly means of operation. If different media is not utilized in a distance educational course, in this era, students will lose interest and completion rate of a course will decline leading to a negative economic potential for the course. Over using media within one course could be detrimental as well. The course designer must review his or her students and make choices on media use pertaining to their educational level, cost of a program, computer literacy and internet accessibility. What I learned from the course: 1. This was the first course in my tenure in the program that had low instructor presence and the turnaround time for comments/grades was not acceptable as compared to previous classes. 2. Too many forms of multimedia in one course may not be a positive concept. One needs to choose media which will fit within the confines of a classroom. 3. Podcasts!! They bring the virtual classroom into a real life situation! Seeing and hearing a lecture brings the paper person alive to the student. How I plan to use this course to excel in my profession: 1. I will add more voice over ppt on e-lectures. 2. I will add more podcast to e-lectures

3. When I am the instructor in a course, and information is going to be removed from the students view, the student should be told PRIOR to it being done, in ord er to retrieve any information posted.
