1 Butterfly Peacock Bass The Butterfly Peacock Basss origins are in the Amazon and Orinoco basins of South America. They are 70 cm long. The Peacock Bass is quite large and consumes a variety of prey. Its spawning occurs on flat surfaces and newly hatched larvae are moved to nests in small shallow depressions in sediment, on rocks or logs. This bass can also be found in places such as Alaska, Hawaii, Arizona, Florida, Texas, Puerto Rico and Guam. A group of adolescence was brought from South America to, first, Florida to be a sport fish and to control the populations of Courtenay and Robins. In some places, the Peacock Bass had no effect on native species; but; other places, its introduction led to large changes in food web structure and community composition.
