To: UNCC Dining Services Office Management Dear Sirs and Madams, This letter is to address a concern of the food options within the multiple dining halls here on campus. hen attending orientation over summer we were provided with food in the Crown !la"a Dining #all and $ was thoroughl% impressed with the taste and presentation. This initial introduction to the food e&cited me to what the menu would consist of once $ 'ecame an on( campus student. #owever, once $ 'egan attending UNCC full time, m% original opinion was reversed. The menu options seemed prett% intriguing, although as $ approached the first counter, m% stomach cringed due to the ir)ing smell and gruesome appearance of the pasta and not(so( coo)ed chic)en. $ too) a lap around the cafeteria onl% to reali"e there was nothing appealing. $ too) m% chances with the *Chic)en +lfredo,, which $ would come to regret later when $ reali"ed that $ had food poisoning. $ attempted to forget this unpleasant first meal and tested out the other dining hall a few da%s later with some friends. $ made sure to avoid an% pasta and-or chic)en, and went with a safer alternative choosing the pi""a .which actuall% appeared appeti"ing/. $ gave m% friends the advice to steer awa% from all pasta and chic)en, so the% decided to get the pi""a as well. +fter another long night of 'ecoming well ac0uainted with the Moore #all 'athroom, $ sent a te&t to the others to see how the% felt. ithin a few short moments, and several unfiltered responses, $ had come to the conclusion that $ would not 'e returning to the dining halls. +s a former emplo%ee of Chic)(1il(+, $ full% understand the importance of saving time and mone% when preparing meals for a mass mar)et. This, however, did not restrain Chic)(1il(+ from providing high 0ualit% products in order to ensure customer satisfaction. +fter researching the cost of a meal plan here at UNCC, $ was sure that for a minimum of 23444 the food 0ualit% would 'e top notch. $ rela%ed m% concern to m% parents, and the% were ver% irritated to 'e pa%ing all of this mone% for m% meal plan to go to waste. The decision was made to switch m% meal plan to one with more declining 'alance and less dining hall meals. +lthough, after creating a plan of how much $ could spend a da% on meals at other restaurants, it was o'vious $ would not have enough for even two meals a da%. This was the start to a ver% unhealth% lifest%le that $ was completel% unprepared for. 1or not even 'eing a month into the school %ear, this is a ver% unwelcoming pro'lem. $ am ver% unhapp% that $ will 'e forced to spend thousands of dollars for food that does not reflect the amount $ am pa%ing. +fter spea)ing with man% of m% peers, it was o'vious that $ was not the onl% one concerned. $ am writing to e&pose %ou to this dissatisfaction in hopes of having the pro'lem fi&ed. $mprovements to the food should 'e made in order to please students and their families. 5ualit% is a ver% important factor to include in )eeping students returning to the dining halls. $ hope %ou will ta)e m% concerns into consideration6 otherwise $ will 'e persuaded to find an alternate living arrangement, or even alternative school options. Sincerel%, Marc 7stridge

+nal%sis Memo
8efore 'eginning m% complaint letter, $ chose an audience in which $ would address throughout the letter. $n doing so $ chose the Dining Services Office management, 'ecause $ was certain the% would 'e concerned with this matter. The% are ahead of all dining services within the campus including the dining halls, restaurants, and Cafes. The wa% m% letter was composed, $ made sure to directl% critici"e their methods, '% pointing out the multiple flaws that $ witnessed in m% e&periences with the dining hall. $ used words that would create a feeling of disgust and shame within them. 1or e&ample, words such as *gruesome, and *unappealing, were used 'ecause the% are ver% unpleasant ad9ectives that would ma)e the management reali"e what a pro'lem the food 0ualit% was to the campus residence. 8% using these words $ was addressing the rhetoric device of !athos '% appealing to the Dining Services management:s feelings. The% should ta)e pride in the food that the cafeteria sells, considering if a 'ad image of the food is created, it is entirel% on them. 8% addressing the fact that $ was an e&(emplo%ee at Chic)(1il(+ and discussing the idea of 'eing efficient while still creating a high 0ualit% product, $ was using 7thos in order to assert a sense of credi'ilit% in the information that $ was providing. Considering $ am onl% a student at the school, $ have no real authorit%, 'ut if $ am a'le to create the idea that $ have some education on the matter that $ am addressing, m% concerns will appear more credi'le to the Dining Management. +lso, $ was sure to include detailed e&amples of what was wrong with the food, and events that $ went through as a result of eating the food in order to show the Management the severe pro'lems that were 'eing caused '% their overl% greased processed products. $ made sure to emphasi"e the

fact that $ gave the cafeteria multiple tries, to ensure the understanding that this was a reoccurring pro'lem. These e&amples relate to the idea of pathos as well, 'ecause $ was influencing an idea in the mind of m% audience in order to persuade them that this was a ver% important matter. +t the end of m% complaint letter $ made sure to e&press an idea for what $ 'elieved should 'e done in order to resolve this matter that was not over the top, 'ut was understanda'le considering the matter $ was addressing. $ gave a *logical, resolution in order to e&press logos within m% paper. $ was sure to use e&amples of research $ did so that m% logic was factual and not purel% 'ased off of the opinions $ was including. $n conclusion, $ was sure to include all ; rhetoric devices, pathos, logos, and ethos, in a wa% that formall% addressed the audience $ had intended it to. +ll ideas and details included pla%ed a part in a convincing paper that would raise awareness in the mind of whom it would concern.
