Literacy Memoir Reflection

Once competition of my final portfolio I feel like I have a better understanding of how I am as a literate individual. Reading the memoir examples of Malcom X and Lahiri really helped me decide how I wanted to go about my literacy memoir. I understood why Professor Davis wanted us to focus on one or two events that relate to us becoming literate and write in depth about the events. Description was one factor Professor Davis really expressed during my revision stage in the process and I feel I took her comments into consideration as shown in my final polished product of my memoir. Professor Davis didnt really want our memoirs to seem as we were telling our story like there was a timeline. I feel like in my memoir I may have started it off like I was going to write about my literacy experiences in order I but I feel as I wrote about the events that led up to my different styles of literacy I enjoy. I used past events to show why I enjoy a certain style of literacy and writing this memoir was rather interesting due to the fact that I learned how much I enjoy many different styles of literature and how many of them related to the many extracurricular activities I participated in. I would have to say being involved in all those extracurricular activities really helped broaden my literacy in many ways. Throughout my memoir I also feel as though I show that Im an individual that liked to jump from one type of literature to another. When other people read my memoir I hope they see that Im a literate person that can do more than just read and write. I want readers to gain the insight that Im creative and able to pick up many different styles of literature. I also want them to understand that this would only be possible due to my strong foundation of early childhood literacy. I took a lot of time writing this memoir and feel this final product best describes my literacy in the past as well as my plans for the future in my literacy interests.
