2nd Quarter Reading Project: Fictional and Historical Citizenship

This project corresponds with the novel the team just completed Catching Fire, and coincides with the Create a Nation project they are starting in their Social Studies class. The objective is to demonstrate their knowledge of the book through various forms of written and oral presentation as well as explore the theme of citizenship in the story. The project will last throughout the rest of 2 nd quarter and all guidelines are provided on this project sheet. The project is worth 90 points total plus an opportunity for extra credit. Each student is expected to put their BEST WORK forward and parents/guardians are expected to help keep them on track while at home, especially over the Christmas break. Good luck!

Part 2 (Due by Dec. 12 BLACK/ Dec. 13 GOLD) 20 points possible ____ Points earned Citizens in the Book: Poster style display. *Compare one citizen rebel to one Capitol oppressor. *Must describe (1) their character traits and (2) their actions in the book. *Must include a haiku that expresses the characters personality. *Must be visually stimulating. What will your citizens be like? Write an essay (5 paragraph minimum) describing how the citizens in your country conduct themselves in regard to politics, laws, within their own community or neighborhood, at home or when representing your country. Part 4 (Presentations on Jan. 13 Black/ Jan. 14 GOLD) 30 points possible ____ Points earned Citizens in U.S. History: You and your partner must do research two influential citizens in U.S. history from the list below. Choose either a display board or powerpoint presentation to present the following information to the rest of the class: Who is he/she? Include important dates, pictures and background information (childhood, education, family, jobs, etc.) What important things did this person do? What important events were they a part of? What kind of impact did his/her actions have for future Americans? Must include your sources (book/website information to ensure your information is reliable and that your work was done in your own words, not copied and pasted.)
