The four steps of art criticism are; Description (What do I see?), Analysis (How is the work organized?), Interpretation (What message does this artwork communicate?), and Judgment (Is this a successful work of art?). 2. The aesthetic theory that places emphasis on the design qualities of a work of art is called a Subject. 3. The aesthetic theory that focuses on realistic presentation is called, Literal Qualities.

When you get to interpretation, you will make guesses about what message you think the artwork is communicating. Finally, during judgment, you will make your own decisions about the artistic merit of the work. 5. Art Criticism helps the viewer see a piece of artwork in a better manner of logic, rather than being lost in mystique, giving the work a more likable feel.
