Kuroki English 100 STACC November 25, 2013 SLO Essay 1-4 Student Learning Outcome #1 for English 100 states, Write coherent, developed, and clearly constructed thesis-driven in class and out-of-class essays using a variety of rhetorical approaches. This skillset requires me to be able to construct a well-developed thesis for my essays. All the essays that we have had to do this whole semester have helped me to not only construct a well-written thesis, but also utilizing different ways to come up with an argument or reason for my essays. Both the in class and out of class essays all have required me to have a well-constructed thesis. Free write, outlining, peer review, gallery walk Student Learning Outcome #2 for English 100 states, Use effective strategies for prewriting, composing, and revising of essays, both in and out of class. This skill set requires me to use different methods to help revise or compose my essays. Some of the methods used in class that relate to this outcome are freewrites, outlining, peer reviews, and the gallery walk. I personally found most of these methods very useful, especially the peer review and galley walk, because it was a chance for me to receive feedback on my papers. Critical reading book, grammar presentations, annotate book Student Learning Outcome #3 for English 100 states, Read, summarize, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate a variety of texts. This skillset requires me to not only read, but also analyze and understand the text that I am reading. Annotating the text that I read in this course is related to this outcome because it is a technique used to help summarize and analyze text in a faster and easier manner. This technique to annotate all of the reading we have done has made it easier to summarize and evaluate the text. Peer review Student Learning Outcome #4 for English 100 states, Compose grammatical sentences free of major errors in mechanics, punctuations, and spelling. This skillset requires me to write sentences that are free from grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors. All of the essays that I have done throughout this semester are related to this outcome because it is a way for me to see the errors I tend to make whenever I write papers. Another method that was used in class to help us detect our grammatical errors was the group presentations that dealt with grammar and sentence structure. Essays Student Learning Outcome #5 for English 100 states, Select credible academic resources from the library to a research topic. This skillset requires me to use reliable online and book sources to obtain credible information. The day we went into the computer lab for an introduction to the library is related to this outcome because in that presentation, we were

able to learn which websites and sources were reliable. This presentation showed me websites I would have never known about to get articles or peer reviewed sources.

Works cited Student Learning Outcome #6 for English 100 states, Document sources (print, electronic, and other) in MLA format. This skillset involves me to cite and give credit to all of the sources that I have used ranging from print or web sources. All of the essays and projects that we have done throughout the course is a display of this outcome because all of our work requires us to have a works cited page, so that we could cite all of the sources we use. One of the main assignments that relates to this would be our final works cited page for our ePortfolio because we were asked to cite all of the books that we have read through the semester. Citing our work is a way for us to be accountable for the sources and information that we have used, and also gives credit to the information that we obtain from print or web sources.
