Session 1: History of The Mini-Page


Summary: Teachers will first be led through an overview of the course and how to navigate the website. The rest of the session will focus on the history of The Mini Page. Teachers will also have a chance to explore the archive and examples of the Mini Page. Session 2: The Mini-Page and Effective Best Teaching Practices


Summary: In this session, ways that the Mini-Page models effective best teaching practices will be shared and explored. Exemplars will be provided that best illustrate the respective best teaching practice. Some of the topics to be discussed include: Identifying the importance of research and journalism in education Creating a parent connection Providing content that is simple, yet rich Launch an interest base for yourself as well as your students Connect everything to the real-world Using characters to engage students

Assignment Due: Read 2 short pieces about the Mini-Page Post any remaining questions you about the course or Mini Page to the Blog. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Session 3: Chat with Betty and Class Presentations


Summary: Teachers will get to interact with Betty Debnam. They also will get to share their work/projects with the rest of the class and receive feedback. Assignment Due: Create your Mini Page project and be ready to share it with the class. These projects will be original ideas that teachers come up with. The goal is for teachers to identify a meaningful way they can use the Mini Page in their current or future classroom. The audience for the project could be a grade-level team, parents, teachers, or even students. Post questions that you'd like to ask Betty on the Blog.
