a) The exigency in my public argument is the recent media shuffled topic about the United States intervening in Syria. In August 21st, 2013, the Syrian government used chemical weapons in a small town of Damascus killing 1,300 and many more being wounded according to BBC News on Middle East. With this, President Obama gave an address to the nation stating he has his mind set on attacking Syria for the horrible crime they committed to their own people. Millions against the war and public demanding no war on Syria, the talk of attack has halted and now is very rarely talked about. My reason for writing is based solely on my interest of current world problems and having a slight military background to justify m y reasonings behind my argument. b) The purpose to my public argument is to inform the audience that our country being involved in this war would not be good for anyone. There would be more damage to international relations, our economy and maybe possibly start WWIII. Even though the crime was heinous, sometimes backing off, figuring out the facts and re-engaging appropriately works the best. I chose this purpose because I feel like nothing will be worse than one of my reasons I provided to come to life. Standing up to reality and the truth were one of my main reasons I would say as the reasoning for choosing this purpose.

c) My claim is that we should not intervene in anymore countries for a little while. Our economy is getting worse, the Syrian government doesnt want us there, and neither does most of America. Our economy has improved slightly but it hasnt been the same for years. Unemployed veterans are at an all time high and higher than the nations average. Research conducted by Taborda Joana for Trading Economics website has the nation coming in at 7% . Veterans are coming in at 8% according to Bureau of Labor Statistics. The rebels have been fighting against the government in the longest civil war in their countrys history but us being there if frowned upon by lots of Syrian civilians and other countries such as Russia and China. And with numerous Anti-war organizations taking it to the streets now, most of America is not in favor of the war. d) My chosen public audience is the American citizens. I chose this audience because it is the largest populations that somebody can get hands on. And we the people decide the good faith of our country. After looking at recent polls, most Americans are not in favor of the war. Levy Ariel from the Huffington Post had gathered survey polls from 4 different news websites. A survey conducted by Washington Post/ABC News found in Huffington Post between Aug 28-Sep 1 has revealed that 36% of readers Favor going to war while 59 staggering percentage is in Opposition to war while only 5% were Unsure. I focused my argument on 10-12 key points of the reasons of not going to war with Syria then instead of feeding the American public a novel to read, Ive laid it out straight and simple with the facts so Americans can educate themselves. e) I would first start off small and start publishing this argument in my campus. And shortly take it to different communities to raise more awareness. I chose this location because I feel like if I advertise my argument through brochures here, my messages would

skyrocket to lots of individuals because students voice is a strong one. We are the future of this country so our voice stands out the most when were united as students of this country. I know that my campus is perfect for advertising because of an ease of access to advertisements that can be seen easily in the plaza. With thousands of students walking thru the plaza daily, its a perfect place to advertise my argument and claims. f) I chose to present my information through a brochure. It is a tri-fold brochures with pictures, quotes and my 12 key points to not go to war with Syria. Its a very approachable and easy going brochure where the information is presented in a calm manner. I feel my brochure will create the perfect message for people. I made this brochure in Microsoft Word 07. I first laid the canvas out in landscape then added 3 break in between my pages to create the tri-fold look. Another page was created the same way but with different information. Both information will be printed in one page and folded to resemble a brochure. g) The main limitations to my argument are the lack of other advertising method I couldve used. Due to the fact I am a poor college student, its rather unfortunate that my advertising might not make it higher then brochures in campus. This limits my argument because Im unable to reach out to more of the everyday Americans as well.
