BrightStor High Availability

Cost-Effective Application and Server Availability

BrightStor High Availability protects mission-critical data in Windows 2000/2003 environments by replicating it to a local or remote secondary server. Data is synchronized between two servers in real time with patented technology that maximizes data and transactional integrity while optimizing performance and availability. In the event of application or server failure, BrightStor High Availability provides nonstop access to data and applications without significantly increasing the IT budget.

Business Continuity
As the amount of enterprise data has grown, efficient data protection management has become a priority. All the planning and maintenance in the world cannot prevent a server or application crash. Statistics show that it is not a question of if systems will fail, but when. Such failures can shut down a production infrastructure and your business. System downtime all too often results in lost business opportunities, dissatisfied clients and damage to your reputation. In todays time-critical, web-enabled marketplace, it is imperative that critical business continues uninterrupted.

BrightStor High Availability automatically detects changes to files on the primary server and replicates those changes to the secondary server in real time.

Data, Server and Application Availability

BrightStor High Availability from Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) helps enable continuous business operations and is a necessary component of any data protection and availability plan. Once critical data is defined, it is automatically replicated to a secondary server in real time ensuring nonstop access even if a server suffers catastrophic damage. BrightStor High Availability continuously protects data by automatically replicating any changes and updates to the secondary server as they occur. This powerful solution can automatically detect services and/or server failures and instantly switch end users to the secondary server, whether local or remote. The secondary server assumes the complete identity of the primary, including its host name and IP address, as well as continuing to process its normal workload. The entire failover process occurs in real time and is completely transparent to the end user.

BrightStor High Availability offers the following benefits: High Scalability and Flexibility. BrightStor High Availability scales to support networks of any size. It runs on any networked Windows 2000/2003 server and does not require any special hardware, network cards or unique configurations. As your organization grows, protection can be extended to additional primary servers at any time. Efficient, Cost-Effective Protection. Multiple primary servers can replicate to a single secondary server, offering you peace of mind. The primary and secondary servers need not be identical and can be located anywhere in the network. Complete Out-of-the-Box Protection. BrightStor High Availability includes built-in support wizards for popular applications that require continuous user access, including databases, groupware and web-based applications. Should BrightStor High Availability detect a potential failure, it can seek confirmation via an optional serial port link between primary and secondary servers, and/or by pinging selected network machines or devices.

Real-Time Data Replication is provided through patented transaction-capture technology and high-speed transmission techniques to achieve optimum network performance without sacrificing data integrity. Automated, Single-Step Reinstatement rebuilds the primary server data with a simple wizard after replacing or fixing any failed hardware. Enterprise Management Capabilities are provided via full integration with Unicenter, offering powerful management functionality including Business Process Views to deliver unprecedented server availability.

BrightStor : Storage Management

BrightStor High Availability provides support for the most common applications used on the market and can be configured to protect any application, folder, service and data through easy-to-use, built-in wizards.

Distinctive Functionalities
Application Support Wizards offer you automated support for your mission-critical applications. You can select between integrated applications (MS Exchange, MS SQL Server, MS IIS) and supported applications (Netscape Enterprise Server, Lotus Notes, Oracle, MS Proxy Server, Unicenter and so on) to enjoy complete protection against application and server failures. User-Defined Application Wizards allow you to easily set up and configure any application for failover. You can define files, folders, services and other relevant information and choose how data will be managed and replicated in the event of a disaster. Optional Synchronization allows you to decide whether or not you want to synchronize the application data. This function is used when the application contains its own synchronization method (such as Oracle) and you only need failover capabilities. Failover Across Subnets allows you to have your secondary server in a different segment of your network, offering failover even if your primary and secondary servers are in different buildings, cities or countries.

BrightStor provides industry-leading, end-to-end storage management solutions that help protect and manage data for business continuity across all major platforms and storage architectures. The BrightStor brand represents todays most scalable, advanced and easy-to-use storage management technologies.
