Dear Fordson High Schoo! Parent or Guardian: Brian J. Whiston
‘Superintendent
Introduetion
Fordson High School and the Dearborn Public Schools are dedicated to providing all students
with the educational foundation necessary to sueceed in schoo! and in life. To ensure your
child’s suecess, we set high standands that are reflected in what is taught in our classrooms.
Bach school in Michigan is required to assess students every year on the Michigan Educational
‘Assessment Program (MEAP)/Michigan Merit Exam (MME). Under the federal No Child Left
‘Behind Act, which was signed into law in 2002, the results ofthese tests, as well es
participation on the tests and graduation rats are used to determine whether schools
particularly Tile I funded sehools-are making adequate yearly progress (AYP).
Fordson High School has been identified as needing improvement. Although Fordson High
‘School did achieve AYP based on the 2009 MME, Fordson did not make AYP for the prior 3
year in the areas of math (English Language Leamers, special education students,
‘educationally disadvantaged students) and English Language Arts (the entire school, English
Language Learners, special education stadents, educationally disadvantaged students). In
coer to no longer be identified for improverer, Fordson must achieve AYP for 2 consecutive
years. With the addition of literacy and math coordinators and focus on these important skis,
Fordson made significant improvement on MME math and English language ars scores last
school year. Tis focus on literacy and math skills will continue and expand withthe additional
funding provided by the school’s new Tite I status. You can assist eflors by encouraging
your child to obtain the literacy and math help offered by Fordson staff during the regular
school day as well as after schoo! and by becoming an active participant in the Fordson
‘community through your participation inthe PTA.
‘This notice will inform you about your student's eligibility for transfer to another school and
provide you with information about how the choice program works
‘Transfer is an Option, not a Requirement
Since Fordson High Schoo! i identified for improvement, you have the option of transfering
{your child to another school, but that decision is entirely up to you. Ifyou believe that your
‘studeut would be better off remaining et Fordson High School, you need do nothing but make
‘sure your child attends at the start ofthe school year.
