Capel Rock Charity Music Festival 25th August 2013 Further to the Folkestone Harbour Festival two weeks previously, I headed off to he !apel "usi# Festival safe in the knowledge that ea$ %!& were #overing the event' his $eant that "ark !ridland would have plenty of help and to $y utter relief, he would not need his brow $opping on this o##asion at least lol' Anyway, (ure hing )rodu#tions were pulling out all the stops by organising the *th annual festival in the grounds of he &oyal +ak )ub, !apel' It pro$ised to be an e,#iting day and along with $any attra#tions, ten live bands were set to perfor$ with pro#eeds supporting Highview and Fo,wood s#hools in Hythe' (o ar$ed with note pad, pen and lots of enthusias$ I set off with the hope that after torrential rain the previous day, the weather would be kind to us' Arriving around 11'30 a$, I found the pub-s grounds to be a hive of a#tivity' An outside bar was set up along with various #atering outlets, a boun#y #astle and fa#e painting' Heli. !harter was also preparing in the wings with heli#opter rides and $ost i$portantly the large trailer stage had been installed' he hosting %/ was )aul &eynolds who started us off with so$e $usi# to get us in the $ood prior to inviting the opening band, )hanto$ )ower' heir first ti$e at !apel "usi# Festival, this 3. pie#e ro#k #over band fro$ %over is headed by o$ !larke on vo#als and guitar along with 0osh Haywood on bass and %aniel ($ith on %ru$s' hese a$bitious, young guys entertained the first arrivals to the festival with great songs su#h as 1ou 2ive 3ove A 4ad 5a$e by 4on 0ovi, (lither by 6elvet &evolver, 3earn o Fly by he Foo Fighters and also !ave "an whi#h was the first song they ever wrote the$selves' here were so$e brilliant guitar solos and $ost i$pressive was when during 3ive And 3et %ie, o$ played so$e of his guitar fro$ behind his head that got hi$ plenty of well .deserved applause' he rain had stayed off during the $orning and the strong wind that was now belting a#ross fro$ the sea nearby, was keeping the rain #louds at bay but was also threatening to blow the tarpaulin #over off the roof of the outside bar but it stayed inta#t' And did anyone #are7 5o' he $ain thing was the sun was #o$ing out, the deli#ious s$ell of 448 food kept wafting over and every so often, the powerful sound of the heli#opter-s engine and its propellers roared overhead'

At 1)", standing in for he !harlie "onroe 4and was a 5.pie#e band #alled he 9ulprits' Founded in "ar#h 200*, this indie ro#k #overs band is headed by fe$ale vo#alist !arrie !allingha$ who perfor$ed with ease and #onfiden#e along with he 9ulprit-s other $e$bers, (hane 4arden guitar and ba#king vo#als, %ave !a$pbel bass guitar and 9eith &eynolds on the dru$s' hey did a great set and opened with 6ertigo :2' he #rowd en/oyed their songs whi#h in#luded, 4link 1;2 All he ($all hings, (tereophoni#s %akota, <ho 9new )ink, he (#issor (isters ake your "a$a and 4runo "ars 3o#ked +ut +f Heaven' It was the se#ond ti$e I had seen the$ and they were /ust as good as the first ti$e' 5e,t up was a band fro$ Folkestone #alled )aradig$' +pening with 3inkin )ark-s 5u$b, they i$$ediately grabbed $y attention be#ause their young, leading lady 2e$$a In#e had a ri#h, powerful voi#e and she owned the stage' his =. pie#e band is also $ade up of (teve 0ekabson on guitar, 9eith 2odden bass and )eter Hurd per#ussion' hey for$ed in 200* and their genre #overs a wide area of $usi# starting fro$ ba#k in the si,ties' hey were well re#eived by the #rowd as they perfor$ed $any #overs fro$ 4londie, &ihanna, he )oli#e and Floren#e And he "a#hine' "y personal favourites were A$y <inehouse 4a#k o 4la#k and their final song, 4ring "e o 3ife Inside by >vanes#en#e' And talking of favourites, $y favourite band of the day by far was a =. pie#e ro#k?#overs band A9A who perfor$ed ne,t' 4y now the festival was hu$$ing with people who were soaking up the great $usi# and the wonderful at$osphere here at !apel "usi# Festival' hese guys started off with eenage 9i#ks by he :ndertones and ha$$ered on with brilliant versions of songs su#h as (u$$er +f @*, 8ueen-s I <ant o 4reak Free, )lay hat Funky "usi#, 2=@; "otorway, and fantasti# renditions of !o$fortably 5u$b, :2-s <ith +r <ithout 1ou and ended with (weet Ho$e Alaba$a' here was a lovely deep, ri#h base to their $usi# and I also liked the fa#t that they intera#ted well with the #rowd who were singing along, #heering and dan#ing with their hands held high' A9A definitely got a hands up fro$ $e' <ell done guysA 4arely $ore than 1; $onths ago, with ro#k and pop influen#es, 0ohn, 4illy, 0a$es, !live and 0onny fro$ Ashford for$ed their band #alled <ireless' For su#h a young band, these guys held their own at the festival and went down really well with the #rowd who dan#ed along to their opening song 3o#al 4oy In he )hotograph by the (tereophoni#s and with lots of raw energy went on to perfor$ great nu$bers su#h as, I Fought he 3aw, 4ad

!o$pany-s Feel 3ike "aking 3ove, <here >ver 1ou 2o, &o#king All +ver he <orld, (i$ple "ind-s %on-t 1ou Forget About "e and they finished off with their brilliant version of 2reenday-s A$eri#an Idiot' &eyes a =. pie#e indie ro#k and roll #overs band fro$ "aidstone took the stage ne,t' For$ed in 2005, these lads are influen#ed by bands su#h as he 4eatles, 9ings +f 3eon, 9asabian, he (tones and he killers' <ith Huw <hitethread on vo#als, 4en 6allins lead guitar, "att +gilvie per#ussion and Andy 4ennett bass guitar' heir set in#luded he 4ar ender And he hief by he (tereophoni#s, <alk his <ay by Areo ($ith, 9assabian-s brilliant I-$ +n Fire, 5ot A (oldier he 9illers, &eef-s )ut 1our Hands :p and 2et 3u#ky by %aft )unk' (o$e good tunes, a good perfor$an#e and good intera#tion with the #rowd who were very re#eptive towards the$. a great set' As the party at$osphere at the festival #ontinued into the early evening, 3iBuid 0a#ket were wel#o$ed on stage and they opened their set with (even 5ation Ar$y-s song <hite (tripes' his Folkestone based band was for$ed in 200;' <ith a party ro#k genre the band #onsists of o$ <alton on vo#als, !harlie (tin#h#o$be guitar, 0a$ie Floate bass and (i$on Cilolkowski on dru$s' hey e,#ited the #rowd with so$e great #overs in#luding, >lton 0ohn-s (aturday 5ight Is All &ight For Fighting, Foot loose 9enny 3oggins, Are 1ou 2onna 2o "y <ay, a fantasti# instru$ental pie#e during the song (uperstitious and winding up with "y (herona' <ith o$ spending so$e of the set boun#ing around the stage on a pogo sti#k, this bands enthusias$ and energy #ould not be deigned and very it was very entertaining to wat#h' Dp$ and by now the #rowd had begun to thin out but the at$osphere was still /ust as good as the festival goers waited for the ne,t band' It was ti$e for Fat 4adger a heavy ro#k #over band and to $y $ind, the heaviest band of the day so far' I have seen these guys before and really liked the$' Fat 4adger are fro$ Ashford with Andy oEer on vo#als, !hris )ayne on bass and vo#als, !hris 4ailey on guitar and dru$$ing was %arren &oberts' hey #ouldn-t have gone wrong in $y eyes by starting their set with A!?%!-( <hole 3otta &osie that got everyone ro#king' he band kept the $o$entu$ going with #lassi#s like 0ail 4reak hin 3iEEy, 9eep +n (winging, (he 4uilds 6elvet &evolver, !alling In he 5a$e +f by &age Against he "a#hine and their fantasti# version of he Foo Fighters i$es 3ike hese'

"ore talent fro$ Folkestone took the stage ne,t' 4a#k o 4a#k a =.pie#e ro#k #overs band that originally got together in 2010' <ith 3ee Flet#h on vo#als, "att ho$pson guitar and vo#als, %ave !ollins ba#king vo#als and guitar and 5i#k "ilton on %ru$s they $ake up an energeti# and passionate bun#h of lads' Foo Fighter fans were in for a treat as they belted out All "y 3ife, "y Hero and "onkey <ren#h' hey also played other great #overs in#luding, Alive )earl 0a$, Fly Away by 9enny 9ravitE and so$e 6elvet &evolver all to an appre#iative #rowd who were lapping the$ up and they s$ashed their final song with an i$pressive heavy instru$ental at the end of it' he final band of the evening and headlining were +asis :9' his is 5. pie#e, international tribute band are as the na$e suggests, a tribute band but that does not detra#t or take away their talent as $usi#ians in their own right' Hailed as the ne,t best thing to +asis, these guys have re#eived fantasti# reviews and even 3ia$ hi$self was i$pressed, as I understand' he $e$bers #all the$selves, 3ia$, 5oel, 2e$, Andy and !hris and they for$ed in "ar#h 2012' Fro$ the $o$ent they #a$e out on stage they e,uded real attitude and the stage lighting was brilliant' heir first song was &o#k 5 &oll (tar and the #rowd went nuts for the$' hese guys went on to play so $any well. loved +asis nu$bers su#h as, Hello, &oll <ith It, Fade Away, 1ou 2otta "ake It Happen, !ha$pagne (upernova, (top !rying 1our Heart +ut and <onderwall' %uring their perfor$an#e, everyone was bopping and singing along' +f #ourse we were all waiting for the legendary %on-t 3ook 4a#k In Anger and we got itA <hat a way to end a brilliant and $e$orable day at !apel &o#k Festival' he only trouble is that we-ve got to wait a whole year for the ne,t oneA he upside is that over F2,000 was raised for #harity' Happy daysA Suzie Todd
