Dear <<Name>>,

Thank you for your letter regarding the redevelopment of Lansdowne Park. I appreciate hearing
from you on this timely and important issue.

Lansdowne Park has been situated at the heart of Ottawa for over a hundred years. Its prime
location next to the historic Rideau Canal, just blocks away from the downtown core make it an
ideal location for a multi-functional and green facility that is accessible to all Ottawans.

I agree that we must move forward to revitalize this underutilized location and make it an
integral part of Ottawa’s central core. However, I am disappointed that City Council cancelled
the design competition and has not taken the opportunity to consult further on the redevelopment
of this essential community space.

Recently, Premier McGuinty took a bold step and eliminated sole-source contracts for consulting
within the Government of Ontario and its agencies. I think this is a necessary step to ensure that
public dollars are spent wisely and responsibly. This move also sets an example of leadership
and integrity across the province.

I hope that my colleagues at the Ottawa City Council will reconsider their decision and will
reopen the discussion about the future of Lansdowne Park. When tax dollars are being invested
in community spaces, I think it is our job to undertake a transparent public process to consider all
options and ensure that the responsible and fair plan is chosen.

I am proud to have participated in the recent Friends of Lansdowne Rally to show my support for
responsible development in our community. I will continue to work hard with members of our
community and with City Council to find a suitable growth plan for our community.

Once again, thank you for writing. Please feel free to contact my Community Office at any time
to share your thoughts and concerns. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours truly,

Yasir Naqvi, MPP
