Persecution and Freedom of Religion

By Devin Kimber Junior Division Individual Website

I am a pretty big Christian. And one day one of my friends told me that they were not allowed to carry bibles at their school. This led me to other ways that Christians are being discriminated. And when history fair came, I decided I want to find out just how long Christians have been treated unfairly because of their religion. When I was conducting research I first wanted to know what were some kinds of things done to Christians. I then set out to find some primary sources not included in the Bible. I recorded everything that I found out in a word document that turned out to be about 1,500 words. All that research prepared me for the website I made as my history project. I chose to do a website because, as my teacher put it Websites are the ways of the future. I was skeptical at first because Im not a very creative person and I assumed that it would require a lot of hard work and knowledge that I dont have. However, my teacher managed to convince me into doing it. She said it would not be hard at all and that she has had many problems with computers too but that this has never been a challenge for her. So as I stated earlier I chose to design a website. My topic is a story of love. The love the heavenly father gives us and the love we try to give him. But it is mainly about that word try. My topic is about why we cant fully return the love the father gives us. It is because of sin. This sin is the same sin that lead to the romans and many others who were driven to persecute Christians. So how in the world does this relate to the theme of this year? Well often if Christians were not simply killed they were imprisoned for long very long periods of time. So I could have talk about the right to be free but since this happened to them because of their religion I talked the freedom of religion and how important that is. I believe we in America take freedom of religion for granted. When I go to church it never crosses my mind that if we were caught that I could be killed. No, and I really think we need to understand how amazing that truly is.
